250r Clutch HELP!

my buddy has an 85 250r and the clutch doesnt seem to be working it wont go into neutral when pulled in, has new hinson basket, plates, springs, and new hinson pressure plate. when clutch is pulled it looks like the pressure plate comes out unevenly but it is brand new and not warped. could it be the ball and rod or???? any help would be great THANKS

the hinson pressure plate requires the 89 clutch update.

Oh alright ordered it through denniskirk and it says under fitment Part 380933 fits the following machines:
* 1985 Honda ATC250R
* 1986 Honda ATC250R
* 1986 Honda TRX250R FourTrax
* 1987 Honda TRX250R FourTrax
* 1988 Honda TRX250R FourTrax
* 1989 Honda TRX250R FourTrax

well, somebody has the wrong info. Did you read the hinson instructions??? The hinson pressure plate is listed for a 89 trx250r. It will fit all years, but it is designed for the 89 clutch system. 89 clutch used a different length rod, washer, lifter and bearing on the end. If you look on rockymountain's site, the hinson plate is listed for 89 trx250r ONLY. It is common knowledge that many people use the 89 update clutch in their r's. They say it engages smoother and the pull is easier. Its part number #06220-hb9-305. They don't have the pressure plate listed for 85-88 250r's, its only for 89's. It will work with 85-88's ONLY with the 89 clutch update. I looked myself, I don't believe they didn't put that down.

Yeah i heard about alot of people doing the clutch update on their R's. Does anyone offer a kit for an update or do you just have to order the rod, bearing, lifter, and washer through honda? thanks for the help
