    Tecate Trivia

Help me figure out who makes these two 84-85 Tecate items. The pipe I bought off of ebay. I paid $50 for it. The pic from the auction was pretty bad and only one. Looking closely it looked like a cone welded pipe at least partially. I was right. The pipe is cone welded to the headpipe which is pinch welded. I don't know who made it, I was hoping you guys might. It was really rusty, but is cleaning up nicely. Pics:

This +2" swingarm came on the 1985 Flat track Tecate I bought a year ago. It looks a lot like the Westcoast on my 84 but it has a welded nut boss for a skid plate I guess. It also has 2 threaded parts on top and bottom for the chain rubber mount that the westcoast doesn't have. There are places where the green paint is missing that shows that it was originally painted gold. Someone told me it might be a Franks swingarm. Pics:

Thanks in advance for any information you have.

The pipe looks alot like the Bassani on mine. The swingarm looks alot like my Westcoast too, but mine doesn't have anywhere to mount the chain slider and mine also has a aluminum shock mount that bolts onto it that says Westcoast on it.

For those of you that have a Bassani expansion chamber, how do you run it? Is it the natural with the wd-40 sprayed on it, or black, nickel or chrome? I'm thinking of chroming this one. Please show me pictures of what your Bassani looks like.

    Thanks again guys,

I was told that my pipe was definitely a Bill's (could be wrong, though)by the previous owner(of over 10-years), but dcreel......my pipe is identical to yours.

Terrible pic before I cleaned it up........the spring hooks, cones, diameters appear the same to me.

The last Bill's Pipe I saw for sale had welded bosses for the stock pipes heat guard. But they do look the same.

dcreel, Another thing...... A Bassani's stinger has another bend in it, where yours and mine don't.

Scooteroo, a pic of your own NOS Bassani to compare shows the stinger isn't the same.

Dixie Plowboy, Does the pipe mount at the bend look the same? Does everyone with a Bassani have a bend in their stinger?

If you mean my pipe mount the same as yours, yes .....other than mine has been brazed back on at some point. I am positive you and I have the same brand pipe.....and mine's not a Bassani like scooteroo's or the ones on Jimmy White's machines in old pics.

Cool. I had forgotten Roost Factory.

I was about to say that the pipe in your first pic looks different than the Roost Factory ad picture. Your first cone is longer and the angle is shallower. It's hard to count the section cones in the belly of either pipe in your pics.

Mine actually looks a bit like the Roost factory ad picture, but then again I have only five cone sections and it's hard to tell how many the ad pipe has. I can see a few similarities, but then several differences in mine and the RF.

    Edited to add:
After a longer look, mine definitely looks different than the Roost factory ad pipe. Among the differences is the length of the last cone and the point at which the stinger joins the last cone. In the RF ad, the last cone continues over the frame tube and the stinger joins it in the airbox/pipe-clearance channel. On mine, the stinger joins the shorter last cone where it crosses the frame tube.
