I could have used an aftermarket trx subframe, but they are very very pricey, around $600. I would have liked to have used chromoly, but I no longer have easy access to a tig like I did when I originally built this, so that makes it complicating. I am not worried about my tig skills, but the lack of a machine makes it hard.
I ended up using 1" 14ga mild steel square tubing for my upper tubes with 3/4" on the lowers. It did take significantly longer than I had planned, but it turned out great and I am very happy. Also am now using an 85/86 ATC250R airbox and intake tube that worked out great. Headed to Little Sahara Waynoka Oklahoma this weekend, so it will get torture tested.

Try running some 30wt oil in your forks, makes all the difference in the world for me. Cheap e-z fix.

Nice job. looks like your subframe ended up turning out really well. Looks very professional , and suppose it cost a lot less than 600 USD.

Did you play with the angle of the seat any? Do you have a picture of the whole bike back together with you new subframe?

Some pictures of it back together.....
I did not change the angle of the seat, I love how low my seat height is and how low that makes my center of gravity. When I ride the TRX450R's I feel like its gonna tip over. I matched my seat height to the same as the 85/86 atc250r and it works out perfect. This is however what lead me to have the long seat that I have, but thats okay sometimes I used the whole seat depending on how agressive I am riding.

I really appreciate how you have kept a low seat height, and I like the idea of the long seat, its just a little out aesthetically speaking. Witch detracts from, what is, an awesome build.

But given the height of the old shock mount I suppose there is very little you can do about it.

But I don't want to make it sound like I'm all negative, Excellent build you have there.

No offence taken. The only other way that I think I would have been able to achieve the low seat height would have been to make my own tank, like jason did, I just don't have the skills or tools necessary to do something that in depth....yet. I agree that it does somewhat distract from the overall cleanly ness of the bike, but I wanted it to be more comfortable and easy switch over from my R rather than just be all about looks. Might try and make my own seat pan or modify this one again sometime, just no time right now. Some day I will build another and use what I have learned from this build to make the next one better. Thanks for the comments and complements.
