air valve on t3 shock canister?

I think I screwed up bigtime. Today I noticed that there was what looked to be an air valve to pump air into the rear shock on my 84 t3. Well knowing my dumb luck, I tired to pump air into it, thinking that it would stiffen it up a little. Well as I pumped the air in, I was looking at the shock, and I then I saw a bunch of oil come out. It was kind of gray in color. It kept comeing out, and there was even a little puddle of oil on the ground afterwards. What did I do to my shock? Was this valve for letting air out if it got in? Do you think I just blew a seal, or does it sound more serious? The oil appeared to be comeing out near the top of the shock cylinder. Let me know what I did. Man I feel so dumb. oops
Also, If I have to buy a rebuild kit, where is a good place to buy one, and how much do they run? I looked in dennis kirk, but didnt have any luck finding anything. Thanx again for your help.

first off that little valve is for charging the shock with nitrogen not air(air is not good because it contains moisture---moisture baaad). It also seems as though your oil seals are bad. I know very little about rear shocks and have been waiting for mr atc to give us a how to on how to rebuild them . You can buy parts for them still thru race-tech.com, but I would recommend having it professionally rebuilt. If you were able to pump air into then it was already shot before you tried to fix it yourself. I hope some of this helps.----Joe 8)
The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

Thanx for the info. Im pretty sure I did blow the seal when I put air in there, because I FORCED it to go in. I'll have to give race tech a look and see how much a rebuild kit would cost. Thanx.
