    decompression lever usage?

OK, I've searched and read and everything else, so I know that it's fairly easy to install a decompression lever on my 200x. So I'm looking at some xr200 parts I found from a later model bike, and was thinking that my poor kickstarter probably won't like the higher compression, and I don't want to have to split the case right now to fix it. The head has the lever, but I've never had a bike with one, so how do you actually USE it? May seem kinda silly, but I've been spoiled with electric start for too long.

Anybody that designs something that they say is completely idiot proof, fails to realize the resourcefulness of a complete idiot.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at and repair.

You just push down on the lever, and it ever so slightly pushes down on the exhaust valve.

Yeah, I get what it does, but do I hold it whole kicking, or just get the motor to a specific spot and let go, or what?

Push the lever down and it should stay down....than you have one pull/kick. As soon as you pull/kick it, it should spring back to the home positon.
