    the t3

I actually got the thing running and rode it today. ) I was suprised how much power it had. It actually jerked my arm when I hit the gas in first gear. The front end dosent want to stay on the ground sometimes. LOL. I picked up a carb from the guy who sold it to me. It was a Mikuni, I dont think that was the stock carb, but it worked pretty good, and fit into the rubber manifold. There is a gas leak somewhere by the petcock that needs to be fixed, I'll have to silicone it or something. I had to drive it without a pipe, because I took that one off. Didnt like the pipe that was on it. It was really loud, and my ears were ringing really bad with no piep at all. I also couldnt shift out of first gear, beceuse I didnt have the clutch hooked up, and I didnt have the correct shifter on it, and couldnt shift up. Well, I just thought I would let you know that the beast is getting a little closer to actually being a running machine. I still need a shifter, and exhaust for sure. Thanx again guys. -D

I do take pride in the fact that my old parts went on some very nice 84/85 KXTs! And you have one sweet 84 GreenLightening!

I've still got Tires, Rims, & Fuel Tank I need to get rid of. The frame, seat and some other odds & ends I will keep. A resurrection is taking shape in my mind.

TeCaTe_MaN, I like the look of your Tecate! Have anymore pics?

    the t3

Jeb, my tecate is sitting on 22x11x8 tires, so they have 8 inch rims, and stock had 10 inch. When I rode it the other day, the rims seemed to wobble a lot on my axle, even though I had them tightened down pretty good. Maybe my hubs are the wrong ones? The hubs are kind of round in shape. One other possibility they are doing this would be the fact that I dont have them tightened down enough. I went to my local hardware store, and just could not possibly find the right metric thread axle nut to hold the hub on. I bought some 3/4 inch nuts with a fine thread, that fit on there somewhat, but you cant tighten them down all the way. Do you think its my hub itself, or the nuts?

Also, I have a mikuni carb on there. Does that sound like the right one? It seems to fit into the manifold just right, but it dosent run all that great. The jet that the needle fits into looks like its drilled out or something! It looks a lot bigger to me, than what its supposed to. ? Also, I dont have a clutch or cable on there at the moment, and the case of the engine appears to be broken on the edge, where the clutch goes into the engine. You can see the clutch move inside through the little break. I can move the little lever back and fourth with my hand. Is this right? Should'nt it have some resistance even without the cable or spring hooked up?
One more thing I noticed was that there was antifreeze comeing out of the little overflow tube. What caused that? Is that normal?

So many problems to fix. LOL. Well, what do you expect for $40? At least it runs. Im going to try to restore it back to how it should be. With a little money and time, it always works out. Thanx for all the help.

yes, as far as i am concerned mikuni carbs came stock on 84/85 tecate's (not sure about 86) beause mine and all my friends t3's have mikuni carbs and no you should not be aboe to move the clutch with your hand.....not sure what causes that maybe all but one of the bolts came out of the clutch basket or the lever is backwards... :?

Perhaps the nut holding the whole clutch on is loose.

There was only one Tecate that didn't have a round slide Mikuni Carb stock. The 1988 Tecate 4. It had a Keihin Flat Slide.

    The 84 had a 32mm
    The 85 had a 34mm
    The 86/87 had a 36mm

    If I remember right! :-D

As for the hubs, judging from what I could see in the pics you definitely do not have stock 84 rear hubs. Stock 84 hubs are completely round and have pretty big lugs. It looks to me like someone wanted to run some 8" rims so that welded on some hubs they had. Go back and look at my pic earlier in this thread. It shows stock hubs (red) and rims.

As for the coolant issue, something is pressuring the coolant system. is the oil in the crank case milky?

If you your clutch cable is off of that little lever on the left hand case then you will be ableto turn that little lever 90 degrees towards the back very easily by hand. If it turns counterclockwise pointing towards the front of the bike then you definatly have a clutch problem. hope this is understandable.---Joe 8)
The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?
