    86 250r With KTM85 Forks Installed.

Here Is my 86R with 1BFC's (A member Here On 3ww's) front end Installed. He has a set of custom heavier springs on order to fit these forks. Once I get the springs, I will make a few changes to the valving and send them on their way.

Once I get this set fine tuned, the machinist will be ready to make a ready to bolt on kit. I will then post the kit In the new products forum. He Is building a set of triple's for The Goats 350x, so If you 350x guys want a set he will have those available also.

sweet jason. Looking real good, how much beefier are these? 1/4 or 1/2 inch thicker?

Don't suppose you know where I can find a better set of springs for the ones I have. Seems like they will be a little lightweight.

Goat, The clamps will all be made 1" thick. Mine on my 450 are 5/8" thick. I have never had a problem with mine being thinner, but people seem to question them. With the thicker material, the stem can be pressed directly In without a spacer on the bottom. These clamps are VERY plain to keep the cost down. If you want changes made or material removed to lighten them up some, he will do what ever you want, but has to charge more for that.

I know Race Tech makes heavier spring's for most any forks you will find.

Nice stuff Jason, thanks for sharing

Are KTM80 our ONLY source for inverts?? Seems to be the way guys go, but they aren't cheap and need spring mods.

250CC inverts cannot be adapted? (without 3"s of fork sticking up through the tripple)?

Regardless, it's guys like you that WILL find the solutions all us trike guys need and THANK YOU for your continued passion, be it your own or yours to share with us

It just seems BAD that this is our only invert choice......

The clamp fabrication doesn't frighten me, it's the other OEM's forks I have to buy and adapt.
All our government does is distract us while they steal from us, misspend our tax $ and ruin our country

it's not the only choice...it's the only easy one.

you can just get the cr250 ones...and cut a portion of the spring out. it'll sit 3 inches lower...and unless you're getting serious air, will never be an issue.

Jason's guy can also rethread the forks and then you can shorten them and they will work exactly the same as oem.

I just went with cr250 forks...with cut springs. we don't jump anyways. but with an extended swinger...and extended forks, and suspension, and wide ass...you can keep the handling the same as stock but gain a buttload of ground clearance.

DC, I realize that the forks are not cheap, and that will be the downfall for the Invert's. My machinist can make Triple's for any size forks. You can cut the springs to lower the bike down with 125/250 forks. The problem with that Is the front wheel will just drop when the front end Is unloaded. Inverted forks have flat spots machined Into them where the triple's clamp, so your limited on how far you can slide them up or down. I put CR80 forks on my boys ATC85R, but he Is light so they will work great for him with heavier springs that are available. I don't think anyone makes springs heavy enough for a grown man to use the cr80 forks on a trike. That stinks, because the CR forks are the correct length and are cheaper than the KTM unit's.

I will check with Russ (1BFC) to see If the same company can make custom springs for the CR80 forks.

Do the triples have additional rake built into them or are the 0 rake?

Billy, that little calipar Is one bad mammer jammer. It has 4 pistons, 2 on each side of the rotor. Another cool thing Is It doesn't use pins to slide on. As the pads wear, It centers It's self because It floats between the 4 piston's. The stock KTM85 rotor Is almost as big In diameter as on my 450R 3 wheeler. The stock 250R rotor Is 7-1/4" In Dia, the KTM Is 8-5/8" Dia, my 450r origionally from a 87cr500 Is 9-1/2" In diameter.

There Is 0 rake It these triple's, but the axle Is leading. The stock R has 6 degree's of rake built Into the triple's, with the axle trailing. The wheelbase with the new forks Is exactly 53". I'm quite sure a stock R wheelbase Is 52-1/2". That works out to be real close, and this thing turns NICE

Thanks Kasey, Yes I have a 450r swingarm kit partially done. I started one for Moshman, but have yet to finish It. After Trikefest I will get back on that and get It done. It will be a bushing kit to fit a 450r swingarm & linkage on a trx or atc 250r. It will Include a spacer to make the 250R carrier work In the narrower 450r swinger also. I would suggest using the stock 250R shock also as the 450r shock Is VERY stiff, and has a built In reservoir In the way of the airbox.

It works good then? Hahaha thats something, I never even bothered trying it because of the smaller sized line fitting it took, and the minimal pad area. It hung on my peg board for years until Russ mentioned he needed one. Atleast its getting some use now!
