    need fork help

well i got a 86 atc250R for 600$ it runs good but the forks need help and the rest needs powdercoating. When I took the forks off the left one wont come apart the crome is chiped there was no oil in it. I took the sirclip out under the seal all I could get out it the 2 springs the washer and a pice that was a foot or so long. I tried to heat the outside of the fork to pull it apart after the and it wont work. and with all the chips in the crome I dont think new seals would hold oil. anyone have a left fork for sale for a 86? I dont have a clue were to find parts for it . I was going to do a frame up restore on it

some pics when I got it

and now I tryed to fix some stuff

Ask a mod to move this to Trikesylvania so you can get some tech help.

This forum is for custom fabrication/engineering etc etc.

They are also very harsh against pics without a helmet. Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just giving you a heads up....

I'm gonna guess you don't have a manual or you wouldn't ask about the side bolt which is just the drain bolt.

Such a nice trike, cheap, why not download a manual before you ruin parts??

With the springs out, lower bolt out and the clip off, you have to put the lower leg in a strong vice and use a ing action to remove the upper portion, seal 1, seal 2, spacer and the damping rod assembly with lock ring.

I've done dozens of forks and never used any heat on them....

Please, look around and download the free manual, at least then you won't be wasting your time.

Anyhow, Great find and welcome to 3WW!!

fixed the helmet I put the fork in the clamp stood it on and beat it with the dead blow and couldnt get it to come apart I had just the one boult out of the end and thought the guy said there were 2 allens I only saw one thats why I asked abought the brain boult. I got 2 springs out, lower bolt out and the clip off the fork gets stuck fully extended ans wont go up or down with out a good hit from the dead blow. hopfuly one of the mods will move this so you can get some tech help.

i done the forks on my R a few months ago and even though you might have everything taken apart, that chrome slider might still be hard to get outta the lower fork. All you gotta do is make sure that allen bolt is outta the bottom, have lots (and i mean lots!) of patience, and keep extending the slider out of the lower fork really fast in a ing action, and keep doing this for the necessary number of minutes/hours until you get it out, it will seem like it will never come out, but i guarantee you, it will!

PS, when it gets stuck fully extended out, lay a thick shop towel on the floor of your garage and just bang down the bottom of the fork (not the top, you'll ruin the inside treads where the bolt with the air valve is) on the towel, then lift up in a ing action, then repeat!

Hey Rick, How's it going? When are we going out again? You want to use the forks off of my 110? j/k Rick heard about the no helmet from our local site too. Next time if he does that, he'd better photoshop a helmet on to his head.

I won a full set off ebay from a 85 R hope they work on the 86 .I could spend more time on the ones I have but with the crome as bad and pitted the way it is I'm not so sure new seals would seal. the helmet I always wear on rides with boots chestprocter gloves ,sometimes shorts when its hot I had just unloaded it at the house and took it for a blast down the road to make sure all the gears were there. my bad. I read some were that the 85 had 3 springs and the 86 had 2? I sute hope they work got the hole forks and clamp for 50$. thedeatons told me to look on here for dirtbike forks.
