    My 250SX update

Well, to all the dads on 3ww, happy fathers day. This weekend I finally got around to tearing my swingarm apart. It has been a butt buster too. First I couldn't get the left side hub nut broke loose. Put the hub in a vise and used my
1" breakover on it and watched the brakehub spin. Pulled the brakehub off and drilled the 2 bolts holding the drum to the hub out, and put the brake side in the vise. After 15 minutes of pulling on the breakover and spraying penetrating oil, it finally broke loose. The diff. side hub had no splines left. No big deal, I wasn't going to use SX swinger anyways. The rest of it came apart easily. Got the diff. off and started taking it apart. Holy !! When I first bought it, the fill plug for the diff. had the top broken off. So when I got it pulled apart, there was a mixture of mud and grease on the inside. The ring and pinion look ok, but you can grab the pinion and move it side to side in the housing. I'm hoping the housing isn't ruined. Got to take the housing to work and get the tool made to remove the pinion so I can get a better look. Next on my list is cleaning, blasting, and powder coating. Once the swingarm is done, I can move onto the frame. I have pics, but for some reason I can't post them.

Hmm, and what swingarm setup will you be using? 86/87 SX? TRX250? One of those but with the 85' diff?

Since you have it out already, rebuild the rear diff. The original gears in mine were destroyed when my pinion bearing failed. There was enough fod to lock up the diff and keep the trike from moving. Luckily I was only about fifty feet from my truck. I was planning on going on a very long ride (30+ miles), glad I didn't stranded! The original failed due to water damage and years of corrosion; remember to run your vent lines as high as you can!

So far I got lucky. Even with all the crap that was inside of mine, it still ran fine.
I bought the trike from a kid for $50. I was told that the rearend was locked up and hadn't ran for 2 years. When I got it home I spent about 2 hours playing with it until I finally got it to crank and idle. When I put it in gear and gave it some gas it moved a foot then stopped rolling. I then gutted the rear brakes and tried it again and was able to ride it around the yard. So I know its not locked yet. In place of the SX swinger I'm going to use a TRX 250 swingarm. Got a complete one for free so I'm not going to be picky. I do have one question though. I have a Clymer manual on it, and it's junk. Does anyone have all of the
torque specs for the final drive unit for a 250SX? Already have all the bearings and seals, just have to clean and mike the parts.
