Not much difference at all between 81 and 82 185s. I've had one of each year and off the top of my head I can't think of any major differences.

I got a owners manual for a 82 its the same as rdlsz24's but its got a different cover.

on the handle on the left brake there's supposed to be a metal loop. you pull the break and then push the loop into the split where the cable is and you'll see a notch it fits in. that's the parking break.

I couldn't find that great of a pic but you can see on the bottom lever there is the loop that oscarmayer is talking about. It just keeps the brake on without you having to keep the lever pulled back.
