2 last 250r questions and Im done!

First of thanks for all the help along the way with my project 250r guys.

Couple questions..then I should be good to finish this next week.

Im not putting this old chain back on and so I am trying to order a chain/ sprocket kit. Lots of them look cheap so I am looking for a brand. Also I have the 1985 which limits me. I know the 86 up has lots more selection but they have larger countersunk bolts from what I see.

Any recommendations on a chain/sprocket setup?

Secondly, I am changing my piston and rings so I bought the correct size ball hone. Im going to put it on a drill at low speed. How many times should I go up and down and do I need oil? Ive never honed before.

This should get me up and running...again thanks

I'm unsure on the chain and sprockets, but you do need oil when you hone (motor oil works fine), and you just want to run it for maybe 15 seconds stroking up and down

What your looking for is a cross hatch pattern, a bit less than 45 degrees.

If you go in and out fairly quick with the drill on low, you will see a pattern emerge. When the pattern looks correct, you know your doing the speeds correctly. I hone it until I have a uniform pattern throughout the entire bore.

For me it seems to take a minute or so but thats with me stopping and adding light oil/WD40 and checking where I'm at.

If you don't want to screw around, spend 120$ and upwards for a good set of sprockets like Sidewinder or Renthal but not an EBAY 60$ package deal. If your running a 250 2 stroke or a 350 4 stroke, I'd run an oring chain. Lesser models suffer a bit of drag and I run non-oring chains on them.

I cant find any good sprockets for the 1985. Am I correct that you CANT use the 86 and up sprockets bc they are 10mm countersunk bolts (not 8mm) ?

    thanks
