    185s carb trouble

    My 81 185s is smoking from getting to much fuel and fouling the plug. The needle is set on the second position from top and pilot screw turned out two turns. I moved the needle to the first notch and left pilot screw alone and now it runs to lean and dont run right. What else should I try to do to it?

    Well I put the needle back on the second notch and screwed the pilot screw all the way in then backed it out 4 turns. Plug looks alot better now. Its a brown/grayish color. Before it was solid black.

    Initial Pilot screw setting is 2 full turns out.
    Have '85 350X-XR500 Hybrid,
    Had Nicholson framed: 90/110, 185s, Gen I 500, Gen II 500
    Had Bandito Framed 90
    Have Vey's Framed 90
    Have too many parts

    I mess with the carb some more today. Runs way to rich on 2 turns. I got it out to five or six turns and still a little rich. Needle is set on second notch if I move it to top notch runs to lean. I guess it needs a good cleaning or a new carb.
