    198? 185s rebuild

my brother got a 198? 185s for parts and stuff, it got no front fork, engine is done in it and the gas tank got a leak somewhere. so for the front fork, i might be able to get one with a rim on it but no handle bars for 175, 150 if im lucky, here is a link to the ad i seen it at: http://kitchener.kijiji.ca/c-cars-ve...AdIdZ130620398. as for the engine, i was wondering if someone knows of an old dirtbike or Atv Engine that will fit with no mods or maybe small mods, depends on what tools will be needed and what tools my brother got, 175cc and up i was thinking. and as for the tank, my brother can just find the leak and patch it up with bondo like the tank for his 83 200e. he done it about 2 days ago and its still holding, the next thing he wants to do with it is to do an oil change. any helpfull info on the rebuild will be helpfull, if anyone about 1-1 and a half hours away from Kitchener got any extra parts for cheep will also be helpfull, thank you for reading.

P.S. i was only thinking of doing it if i can't get a trike or quad for my Xbox 360® Elite Resident Evil Limited Edition Console, if i can't trade it i will just sell it to pay for parts for the rebuild.
Edit: Xbox 360® Elite Resident Evil Limited Edition Console got some other games and a extra controller, worth around $550-$600 i would say.

hey kitchener is not to far from me, i have a set of forks for a 185s, no suspension though.. and a front rim tire and hub, tire holds air, but leaks around the bead. just needs to be cleaned. $175 is a rip in my opinion. thats 25 bucks less then what i payed for a complete 185s /w front suspension. ill give you the forks tire rim and hub for $50

well it depends on whats wrong.. a rebuild can be large or small, if its a loss of compression, could be sleeve wear. rings. hole in the piston, could be something as small as a gasket. a gasket kit with all seals from royal distributing. wich is close to you is 30 bucks. if it needs to be honed, new rings. or piston. could be more expensive. like closer to $150

but if he does not know what wrong he shouldint just jump to a rebuild. could be a carb problem. spark problem.. could be just as simple as my 185s was. i had no spark. i sanded my flywheel down and i got spark. get him to run a few standard tests while trying to start it. and u can go from there. a rebuild is not something to jump into if you dont know what wrong with the engine...

ok, he says it gets spark and lots of fuel, but he said that there is something on the engine that don't work the way its sposted to, he may show me later. he said its like someone took it apart before and put it back wrong or something, we also don't have a compression tester to check the compression. he don't realy care about it cause it's just for parts, but i would like to fix it up if i can't get a trike. i also emailed some dealerships to check the price of a rebuild, just waiting for a reply back. we would also have to get someone else to do it cause we don't really know how to fix it and i don't think we have all the tools for it either. i might be able to do it myself but we don't have the tool for the valve springs because i rebuilt a small engine, maybe 3 or 4 HP at school in my auto course and my bigest problem was geting the valve springs back in.

also, he wants to rebuild the 200e cause its smokeing bad(Blue smoke!) he went to change the oil today and it was bone dry, i took it a little way to put some lawn waste in the lawn waste pile before he toped off the oil while he was gone to work and it cut out and wouldn't start up again, there was gas it it but it wasan't enough appently, something to do with the reserve and i tryed to restart it a couple of times and i maybe flooded the engine. but it runs fine now after he put oil in it, just the blue smoke, it's the 200e that i ride most of the time anyway till i get one of my own.

i dont see how he can be burning that much oil and have enough compression to run, but just find out what hes talking about. theres plenty of people on this forum who will know 100% what to do. and there all good at walking you through it.

if he has spark, a good carb, and the timing is set. its most likely a compression issue, and maybe he is talking about the decompression lever. mine was damaged open. was an easy fix,

ya, i think its the decompression lever he was talking about, when you place it up and pull the recoil starter, it goes back down on its own, i think that is the way it normaly is but my brother don't know, i think that he thinks its broken?

it also don't have a air cleaner so i would have to get one of those also, so i was how much one of those would cost? whn i go back down i will try to look for the engine number/code or whatever if its not worn off of it or something so i can check to see what year it is.

Go to bikebandit.com you can get all of the prices there. Also search this site for a manual. You are gonna need it.

ok, air filter wont cost to much but also needs air filter box, I think that the engine may run when the gas tank gets put back on, i don't think there is anything wrong with it other than a oil leak. and i noticed that it got no rear brake lever/ cable for the back brakes if it would even still work! but if the front fork got brakes it should be ok for now. also looked for the engine code number or whatever to check the year and if its a 185 or 185s but i couldnt see it, i was maybe looking in the wrong place though.
