Turbo CR500 trike that actually works!

Well some of you guys think that a turbo doesn't work well on a single cyl 2stroke. Well, I 'm here to tell you that it works well. I just installed a GT15 on cr500 trike and it's a beast. No poppin, skipping, blubbering or any kind of tuning issues. Just lots of power. Here's a short test run. I'll post more later.

What's the powerbomb part of your pipe for (just before the turbo)? How are you oiling the turbo and where do you return it? How are you fueling it? Looks sweet, would like to see more pictures of the whole setup.

The powerbomb thingy is a steel braid flex pipe. The tank on the side is a oil resevoire. It has an electric pump to circulate the oil and regulator to hold 50-60psi. I'm using a Bosch electric fuel pump for fueling duties.

Very cool. I assume you have some sort of boost sensitive fuel regulator, or what is going on in the box connecting the compressor to the carb? I assume that your oil tank is the one down by the rear brake and that's your regulator behind it. Looks like the fuel pump under the seat? I'd love to hear how that thing sounds. I'm putting a turbocoupe engine in my buggy tonight, so I've had turbos on the brain lately...

Sweet! Is this something that you pieced together, or did you buy it as a kit? Very very cool to know that it does work. I figured it must since there are a bunch of banshees running them. Cant wait to see some action vids of it in competition.

I fabbed everything myself. There's no market for a turbo cr500. lol I hope to have some good footage this weekend at Buso Beach. I took it out yesterday, but was having problems with the fuel pump.

The box between the carb and turbo is a plenum. There's nothing inside. I'm using a Honda Civic fuel pressure reg to regulate the oil pressure and a Mallory bypass reg to control fuel pressure. the oil pump is mounted at the bottom of the swingarm.

Btw, I have a turbo rotary Corolla.
    Here's a couple of vids.

Turbocoupe motor in a buggy sounds like a fun project. Good luck with it. There's a SVO running around here thats pretty fast.

What kind of problems with the fuel pump? Is it pumping more than the float can handle and coming out the overflow? A friend of mine tried putting one on his quad and had that issue. Looking forward to some footage this weekend.

No...the fuel pump locked-up and quit working.

This is interesting. How much boost does it make? Since you have the wastegate plumbed i assume you need to control boost, and by that i mean you are not blowing fresh charge out the exhaust port to control it. Is the expansion chamber an off the shelf peice or something you fabricated or had made? I would think that a specially designed pipe with an extreme pulse wave would have to be constructed to stuff the cylinder properly with an air pump attached to the intake. Did you do anything special with the porting to accomadate the turbo setup? I'm not asking for particulars, only if it is ported different from a typical dragrace type port configuration. I have a lot of experience with turbos in an automotive application and they are absolutely the most efficient power adder (IMO) out there. I've done some research on turbo's and two strokes but there are not many ppl out there that have made them work right, and they only work in a narrow range, and the space limitations on a typical three wheeler are prohibitive, but your packaging is awesome. Also, your bike is a drag racer, and is probably tuned for a narrow powerband, how is the power curve? Most drag 500 class engines still make (relatively) impressive torque numbers simply because of their size. Is this true with yours? I realize there are a lot of questions here but any answers you are willing to give would be appreciated. Great job on the bike, it looks absolutely awesome.
