We will just wear our full facers everywhere....I have three or four open face helmets hanging in the garage I might bring but I don't know why I would need too...I`m just as hot and sweaty in those as my Flys or Fulmers

You guys are right!!! Thank you Louis, John, Andy, Billy..... for opening my eyes on this one. I will be leaving my hard hat at home and sporting an actual helmet. Thanks for keeping us in line, fellas.

If hard hats are that frowned upon why not have the office instruct people not to wear them?

First off, if you want to take that up with Haspin that's fine but I find it very hard to believe you'd have anyone "okay" your hardhat as a helmet especially if they've increased enforcement and security at the park as they've told us they have.

Second, this is a 3WheelerWorld policy for our event. This website, this forum, Trikefest as an event, it's official staff, the people who work behind the scenes to make things happen every year are all behind this. AND anyone who has any love for the sport and desires our club (that's what we are in a nutshell, a ATV riding club) to be respected will get behind this policy as well. 3WheelerWorld STRONGLY discourages hard hats as helmets because they ARE NOT helmets and provide no life saving protection.

Do you want to mourn another dead member because they where "camp cruising" wearing a thin piece of plastic that wasn't strapped to their head, they fell off the back of their 70 trying to hold their beer and smashed their head on a rock?! I'm tired of doing memorials for dead members and half the time the reason they really died was because of alcohol or drugs and lack of real safety equipment.

AND lets get real folks. Some of these so called "hard hats" some people have been wearing aren't real hard hats. Most of them are practically children's dress up props. Sure, there a few that where wearing real hard hats but they aren't helmets.

Cry if you want, feel free to talk badly about Louis Mielke behind my back amongst yourselves about how much of a jerk he is. I don't give a rats ass about what you think of me but I won't standby and watch people represent us as a group, and us as lovers of 3 wheeled atv's in a poor light over something that should be a no brainer like a helmet. WE DON'T NEED THE OFFICE TO TELL US TO WEAR REAL HELMETS WE SHOULD KNOW BETTER. Take some pride in what we are, and what we're doing. Go buy a half helmet for camp cruising, here's one for $16!

First off, I am not defending hardhats as proper riding gear. So let's not get on the defensive too much. They must be okay with it, because Pete stood right there last year and watched everyone riding around. He saw several people wearing hardhats. But chose not to say anything to them. All I'm saying is Haspin will respect the 3ww's wishes. If you tell him that we want to have a no hardhat policy, I guarantee you 100% the staff will tell everyone at the gate that they are not allowed. If the cops tell everybody there okay with them driving 15 miles an hour over the speed limit, guess what, people are going to do it. They know that it's wrong, but are going to do it because they know that nothing will be done about it.

I just don't want to see a bunch of people to show up with only a hard hat and have to go try to find a proper helmet. I know that hole in the wall ATV shop across the bridge maybe Stocks 4 or 5 helmets of each size.

Secondly, yes it sucks when a member dies on the three Wheeler because they chose not to wear a helmet, or rode while using drugs or alcohol. That is their decision. Everyone who rides any atv knows that they should wear a helmet. If they don't know that by now, they must be living under a rock.

Once again I'm not defending the use of hardhats as head protection. My argument is that if 3ww feels that strongly against hardhats, then they should make it a policy for events. I have no problem with it, as I'm sure a lot of others won't have a problem with it either. There are a few people that will have a problem with it, but they will have to get over it.

I never understood the hard hat being used as a substitute for a helmet. Where else other than Haspin would that be found acceptable? Hard hats are to prevent injury from falling objects and bumping your head. If you fall off a trike it's not staying on your head. Frankly i think Haspin needs to crack down. That place gets crazy at times and people die there every year and it's usually due to drugs and alcohol. Come on folks wise up a little bit before we lose one of our own. It sure would ruin the party if somebody got seriously injured or died at our event. I don't want to call anyone's family to explain their injuries.

This is true going WAY back. I grew up in Southern Indiana. Now I`ve never been to TF and I haven`t been to Haspin since the 90s when I was a young buck but back then it was where you went to get messed the F@$* up and drive your 4x4 like an Ahole (myself included).....When I started having kids I quit that nonsense but that place has a rep for sure....always has

Haspen was happy we wore hard hats when every other local wore nothing. Back in 09 fathers day weekend almost no Body had a helmet. (Remember the 4wheeler in the herk-n-jurk last year not even a shirt)
The matter is compounded by Indiana not mandating motorcycle helmets use for public roads

After seeing dune fest in Oregon (helmets optional) and all the dumb-ars helmetless locals flying around wide open; we should be better, it's not hard

As for me I'm not bringing my hard hat, (I got to find a purple half helmet)
    Appearing since '07

Looking for a place to happen...
    Making stops, along the way
