    Polished 1987ATC 200X front fender succesfully !!!

I have polished my fender from a 1987 HONDA ATC200X and I was succesfull !!! It did not have any deep scratches so I only used 2000 grit sand paper. I wet sanded all the fine scraches and film that was on it. After, ,, it at a dull finish and then I finshed it off with a buffer with a micro fine fiber pad. The buffer was 30 bucks at O'RILEY AUTO PARTS and it buffed out the dullness from the 2000 grit paper!. Absolutely no wax, compound or armourall , nothing was used to shine this fender, just wet sand paper and a micro buffer pad. It is its natural shine, like new..wow. I pat myself on the back for this one. NOTE ; this first and the fourth pic are the before pix, actually the first picture is 2000 grit sand paper finish.

    Cool

Another picture with the buffer I used. If any one has a problem with a fender that has been painted,, I found a neat trick to take it off, although this fender did not have any paint on it. Spray " SUPER CLEAN" on the fender, let set for a few minutes and the paint wil start to bubble. Repeat if nessecary, it will not harm the plastic finish and takes the paint completly off!

I didn't believe I could pull it off! Now I don't need an NOS rear fender that I will probably never find. Used ones are pretty common., just need a nice one with no cracks, I know now I can make it look good as new, This is BIG LOAD OFF my restoration!

I can't open the larger pictures but from what I can tell, it looks great. I might have to try this on the ATC200 I'll be getting. Did you use any compound on the buffer?

I noticed also, I cant enlarge the pictures. The pictures must be to large, maybe too many pixels. Now as for the compound, DO NOT use any compund when buffing the fender on the last stage. The buffer needs to be dry in order to polish it to the original Honda shine. The buffing pad is made of micro fine fiber, that's what gives it the shine, other compounds such as wax, rubbing compounds, armourall, etc only give a temporary "wet look" shine and compounds may scratch the finish. The way I did it will stay shiny indefinately just like it came from honda if you do it right, Note : You will spend some time buffing with the micro fiber, it will not bring the shine back immediately,I spent atleast an hour on the last stage. Just take your time and BUFF,BUFF,BUFF!

Thanks, the shine will last as long as a new oem fender, just take proper care in cleaning. New oem fenders are polished when they are molded, they do not have any clear coating on them from the factory. I have polished the fender back to it's original shine without any swirls, very shiny mirror finish. like new.
