I think the 200s would be better cause it's a little lighter than the m. As far as the yamahas I don't know anything about them
I seen a track is running a trike hardtail class. Has to be a factory hardtail.
I'm interested in running this class because those the trikes I ran on mostly so I'm good with them.
I have a 200s, 200m, or yt125 I could use for this class, but wondering what some of you think would be the best trike for this. I never rode a ytm200, would they be good? I had a 225dx for awhile, which I think would have been good as far a handling since it was wider...but those have suspension, but wondering if the 200's have a wider stance than the 200s, 200m.
Any other models that I'm missing.
Thanks for your input.
By the way, the track is an mx track.

Back in the day before the 200x everyone raced the 185s and 200s. They would kick ass!
* 1978 ATC 90/180 Pauter PJ1 / Springer "Team BAPP" Bike *
* 1980 ATC 110/180 "Danny's Machine Works" 3D Sprint Dune Bike *
* Nicholson 500 Race Bike *
* HPATC Yamaha RD350 "Big Moe" Trike *
To this day it's still my favorite bike, I even have a handful of the good Hondas.
A lot of people are going to come on here telling you 185S is the best. Don't listen to them! The ATC200S is far and away the most superior racing hardtail since the inception of hardtail racing. While those sissy 185S trikes might have a tiny bit more torque, they are down dang near 10cc and almost a whole horsepower..... yep, almost one horsepower less. Honestly, I wouldn't race a 185S unless I was entering ladies class.
The old 185 and ATC200 are wide bodies. While they do come with a wide axle, the extra weight isn't helpful (as compared to a 200S frame).
The 200M and hardtail big reds, are honestly just too heavy to muscle around the track too.
Bonus points if you run the first gen ATC200 with no front suspension either.
Hopefully we can get on the track together next summer. Yes, it is as fun as it looks.
As for a 225 Yami, they handle worse, not better.

Here is my 1985 ATC200S with a 1983 ATC200_ saddle for comparison purposes.
I got this machine brand new for Christmas on 12.23.1984. It still rocks!

keister is correct. The ultimate racing hardtail is the ATC200S. It way overpowers the scrawny little 185S. While the 200S took the place of the 185S in 1984 line-up of ATCs, prior, the ATC200 (STD) was offered as well as the 185S for the same model years. The team at Honda offered the ATC200 for the men while the 185S was offered as a smaller, milder, slower companion for the man's lady friend or child. Honda specifically designed the 185S for the ladies. This is why they are slower and less powerful. The handling on the 200S is also far superior to the 185S. You could compare the handling like this, the 200S is a F-22 fighter jet, while the 185S more similarly compares to the Wright Bros. first attempt at a flying machine.
I thought everyone knew this history, but the more I talk to people, they tell me they never knew there was such a HUGE difference in the two. I've owned both and got rid of the 185S when I found out what type of people actually ride them. They are not good people and in general they smell very foul. Here is my Stock Hardtail race bike I won the National Hardtail Chamionship on this summer at Pine Lake. The 185Ss I raced against on the track never stood a chanceAttachment 248165.

Don't let these 200s guys sway your opinion. It is well known knowledge that a 185s to better than a 200s in many ways.
Factory 8 to 1 compression and 270.1 lbs bone stock.
A measly 200s is a straggling 7.8 to 1 compression and 278 lbs.
The numbers don't lie. You can't argue with the math.
In all honesty a 200s out of your choices would be the best bet.
I just have a personal beef with these 2 carrots about them spreading the 200s gospel to everyone with jaded opinions.

It's easy, if you sit down to pee, buy a 185.

Lol, so it seems either a 185 or 200s....
I have more hours logged on a 200s, than any other trike, so I'm happy to hear that it will be one of the best for that class. And I never rode a 185 yet.
Thanks for all the input guys...
Atctim....did you use those rear tires for an mx track? Loose or hard packed? Mine currently has the trail pros on the rear, so I'm gonna have to swap them out for sure. Any recommendations for fronts or rears on the 200's for mx track..Thanks!

If its on the internet its got to be true they can't put any lie's on the internet
going down big Specht! Bakersville atc rules! Lol!
I have never raced my 200S on an MX track, but if I were going to, I would go back to a 2-ply knobby with about 2 psi for pseudo suspension. I only run that bike on Flat track and TT tracks.
PS - The Trail Pro is a power killer for these machines because of their massive weight. You want as little weight as possible hanging off the end of your rear axle. Trail Pro to Stock Style 2-Ply (which is a must) will feel like a 5HP gain! Swear to God! State Law!
