hammer isnt gonna do it. Spend the 15 bucks and get the puller so you dont screw somthing up. If you had a gear puller those work just be carefull. Good luck

Does the 250R have a flywheel that needs a jaw puller or you do you thread a bolt into it to push it off?

You need to get a flywheel puller or you will be replacing the stator and the flywheel. http://www.3wheelerworldforums.com/customavatars/avatar10101_5.gif

^ the puller uses the reverse thread to thread into the flywheel center, then you hold that part with a wrench and turn the center bolt it, and POP there she goes. Get the puller and do it right the first time around!

Lots of guys just put a punch on the crank shaft and with one big hit - WHAM! sometimes it comes off...
But - THAT is the worst thing you can do, that is if you haven't already done that :D It puts side force on the main bearings and immediately damages them and shortens there life.
Get the right puller, it will pay for itself 10X over. If it is the LH thread puller like the 85/86R have, make sure to get a small wire brush into those threads and get off any corrosion. Then oil all threads of the new puller and thread it in until it is nice and tight, not just snug!! Those threads are super fine, sharp and strip verrrrry easy. Do it once, do it right.......
Never whack any shaft with bearings installed on it unless you plan on changing them :beer

Ok so it is like the 200x. I had to take mine off to change my timing chain.
