The kicker on my 85 200x has a broken return spring. Shortly after this issue came up, when i tried to start it the starter position seems to shift and the lever will only come about half way back up and it makes kind of a slight crunch noise and skips. I have read about the skipping issue with these starters and was wondering if maybe the gears inside have broken some teeth and are moving the position of the whole unit. sorry if you are having a hard time understanding, its hard to explain. Thank you for any help

I wish I could give you a little more insight on this, but I don't kow enough about that particular trike. If it were mine, I'd definately rip it apart and go from there. If something is broken it can't be good to have it rattling around in there.

Depending on were the spring broke their is a bushing that is held in by the spring tension itself . Could of possibly fallen out and making the noise in question . Need to split the cases and do the repair before it gets to the tranny and other parts .

thanks for the reply. i think i will try to find a good bottom end and have the whole motor rebuilt. someone has already messed with this motor by removing the oil filter rotor.
