This is what I dragged home last week, along with a 185S motor, Im missing the cdi cover, but have the module, pickup, switches. The thing needs a front caliper, exhaust, plastics, seat and a carb to just get started. I dont know if Id get too upside down in it. I threw a ad on the local craigslist to see if I can score some cheap parts local. We'll see. jim

Waste? I have seen people start with much less before, just a matter of what you want to invest into it.

Do you have a specific riding style? I've seen people put 185s and 200s in those with the automatics and it made for a good trail machine.

I was thinking autoX, but Im just getting in over my head with too many projects. We've got a 185S that needs a stator, and im swapping the hubs to the 200X style to use the wheels and tires I have. That would get that one running, The R needs a piston, and gaskets at a minumum, But since its apart, may as well install new bearings. Then the 200X. Its probably getting the 185 motor. Then it needs everything else.
We're putting a blower on the camaro, and I need to get a few more parts to finish that. picked up a trailer and it needs to be rewired for lights and brakes. The list just goes on and on.

You certainly have a solid start, but if you have too many projects, just sell it to someone who has time to get it going. Or store it for a while until you get other things out of the way. Either way, it has potential. I've started with much less.

yeah, I hear you. I have so many projects, I am getting a head of my self. Use what ever parts you can and try to sell the rest of it for what your into it for. Cut your losses early, besides, IMO, you can find a nice running bike for less than a grand anywhere. How much do you think it is going to cost if you consider your time as $$$$$$

again, IMO ;)

sounds like me, too many projects. I still buy em'......just put em away for later if the price is right. Polytarps are cheap if you have no room like me. How about a blower in a 350x?? lol lol

well it depends on if you want it bad, and you have lots of money to restore it if not get rid of it...

I never consider time as a cost factor, this is a hobby, it would be like trying to recoup your cost watching TV. jim

Looks like a good start, ive build many 200x's from just a bare frame. i have a lot of the parts if you wanting some stuff cheap like tanks, seats, fenders, exhaust, you name it i prob got what you need and could ship in a big parts lot to save ya some bucks.

If you're set on keeping it, tip it up on it's tail and stick it in a corner of your shop somewhere.

I think those are the best to start with. If you are going to tear it down and put new and updated parts on it why waste the money on complete. Gives you a good start to make the wheeler you really want.

I'd use it as a parts machine. you would have a lot into that, when you could buy one that needs parts off that one, and be into it much less.

I said build it outta my money, lol. Only thing is I want the Blazer in the pic for trade of my money.

Brockey, you probably cant tell in the pic but the blazer (actually a 77 Jimmy) is a 2 wheel drive. Lots of 4x4's out there, few 2wd.
Oldskool83, I may take you up on your offer. What do you have for trike in the picture? ive got a 185s motor I can use, its missing the cdi cover. no exhaust or carb. Other than that what you see in the pic is what I have to work with. Zip is 85730. jim

If you decide to part it out, I just picked up part of a 200x. Trying to figure out the year. Unfortunately the vin is near impossible to read.

I emailed oldskool and got a line on a few parts local. If I can get the motor mounts, I can install the 185 motor. Ive got a bent up 200s frame I may be able to do something with the brake pedal to make it work the rear. May have to steal the carb off the 185 project. Would a 86 200S gas tank just look stupid on a X? Only reason I ask is I have a spare. jim

it would look dumb and not mount up right...ill hook ya up with a deal on a proper tank.

Thanks oldskool. Let me see what the local guy has this weekend.
I actually threw the 185,200x roller and the 250r on craigslist this morning to see if I could trade it all for a decent 200X.
I know how I get with these things, because I cant have a broken project sitting in the yard, I'll just start buying parts to get it running and looking good real quick. jim

I think I got you beat on too many projects.

I have two Chevelle projects, a Suzuki Samurai project, two go kart projects, a dirt bike project, & two 3 wheeler projects! Good thing that one car is almost going, go karts are quick & easy, & the dirt bike is minor (plastics). Oh, & I just wired a trailer from front to back in a day's time, lol. Sad thing is that the smaller toys have been getting more attention than the Chevelles or the Samurai lately.

100% agree. I would have dragged it home as well, In fact I have been looking for a roller for my wife 200m forever for her autox.

I'd buy the 68 Chevelle in the background first!

You cannot measure your time, you can spend or count your money, in the end everything is either a shoulda, coulda, woulda or no regrets....trikes make you smile..what is that worth

3wheelmecca

time is more like caring IMO, if you put time into a trike, it shows you care about it. from a wash to a full blown rebuild, you did it for a reason. On my 350X, I had to do a clutch job and it took all day, but it was worth it. To celebrate, i did my ATC a favor, popped the clutch and hit a holeshot.
You just have to take in all factors, money, time, availability, importance, and return or enjoyment.

Exactly.

It drives me nut when people start trying to figure their "time" into the value of their machine. Time drinking a cold beer in front of the TV costs money, but who realistically expects to recoup that money?

Muddy, what year chevelles are you working on? We have a 70, did the 454 muncie, 12 bolt w/powertrax, the whole bucket seat console SS clone type car. The red car in the pic is actually my 68 el camino. I guess its 1/2 a chevelle, its a 327, th350 with a 3.73 10 bolt. bench seat, column shift car. We also have a 71 el camino, did the 454, th350 and a 12 bolt posi. its also a bucket, console car with the SS hood. The 71 was going to get a muncie last week, but I ended up bolting the blower on the camaro instead.
The trailer the trikes are sitting on needs a rewire, from the lights and the electric brakes, but 1st I need to get a title on the trailer, The guy I got it from never got the title from the lady he got it from. Now im stuck with the trailer and waiting for the lady to sign the title over. Im being real patient because the guy I bought the trailer from is the same guy I got the R from. And he may have all the rest of the R parts in the shed. (stator, motor mounts, tank scoops). I can get a bonded title if all else fails. I dont want to ask to return it, mainly because I really want the trailer. jim

185's are a piece of cake. Might have to lengthen electrical wires. Mod the brake pedal, trim the counter sprocket cover. Bolts right in.

okay, call me a glutton for punishment. I just went and bought the following for the 200X
front brake assy with hoses, caliper. rear axle, with hubs, (the one on it is welded), air box, KN air filter, seat, headlight, gas tank with shrouds and a small pin hole, carb, thumb throttle, motor mounts, and bolts, extra wiring from a 84 200S, I even picked up a spare 185 motor so the auto x project should be getting going pretty soon.
I needed a front wheel for the 82 185, I ended up getting a whole fork, wheel, handle bar setup off a 84 200s. Then for the 250R, got the stator which is iffy and rotor, plus the motor mounts!
