I FINALLY got my camera developed that has my 110 build in progress (also has new big red, ill make another thread)
so me and my father actually tore it down in the basement because its much cooler down there and no bugs, also because i had a foot surgery about 6 weeks ago and getting down to the barn would be more difficult.
this is the first half of the build and the other half will be done within the next 2 months.
i just need main bearings, (on the way) connecting rod kit (on the way) and engine seals (ordering soon) and the engine will have everything ready for assembly.
i plan on Powder coating the frame and....well the rest is secret for the 2nd thread, lets just say i plan on spending too much
feel free to ask about anything. ill save the big list of stuff I'm doing once its done.

piston cam big carb Looks to be a good build you need a aftermarket frame and some front susp
Mr_RPM

haha yeah. well as for a frame i don't see why, im not going to be motocrossing it. as for the front suspension i might have something. it might not be done right away and ill probably have it driving around first but that might be part 3 of my build. =) we will see.

No new pics yet but so far i have the engine done and the frame done. just to the point where i got alot of small stuff before assembly. cleaning bolts and guards and stuff like that. The project went a little slower than expected because of a money shortage but I should be good in that department very soon then i can get everything I need and the 110 will be ripping once again.
I still need to get a few things like front wheel barrings and steering bearings and just other small things. after i get it mechanically sound ill start cosmetically. i need to get the seat re-done, Im probably going to get a clarke tank and new plastics.

Been stuck with using a disposable camera (then putting them on a digital disk to upload) I have a bunch of pictures, just i still have about 15 more left on the camera, so as the trike gets farther along i take more pictures. sorry they come is spaced out chunks....how much is a decent, RELIABLE ;) digital camera? im broke and sick of my cameras braking (not broke enough to build up my trike though lmao)

so I have some bad news. we got the 110 running (in naked frame) and my dad had it running great 2nd pull and ran it for about 2 mins (i was at a mud bog with big red and wasn't home) once i got home (hours later) we started it and it ran great for about a min......then grinding sounds and we rushed to kill it. well after some looking around, basically the clutch exploded. It looks like the snap ring came out and the first metal plate came out, all the little springs got chewed up and ruined (along with snap ring). well we took apart the clutch more and the clutch plate "A" got messed up, the studs on the plate got bent up.
The only part I COULD NOT find is clutch plate "A"....so i need one. Ill have pictures probably by this weekend. anyone know what happened? any one have clutch plate "A" they can sell? I also might need a new snap ring from here too (haven't check availability yet) and everything else destroyed i can still get OEM.
but hey she runs good hahaha =P

Sounds like the snap ring wasnt seated all the way . An old school trick was to use a fine piece of solid wire and drill a tiny hole in the clutch bell in a few key spots and wire the ring in so this couldnt happen . Very common problem on a race motor that likes to rev up quick . I have a few complete clutches if you need one .

10-03-2010, 10:33 PM
mike, i might have to take you up on the complete clutch idea, this just happened about 30 mins ago and ill figure it all out the next few days and if my best bet is buying one from you then ill let you know.
thanks for the tip too, your a big help

Now your project is testing your dedication. This is the kind of thing that makes or brakes alot of projects. Hang in there. Now plan to overbuild some of your assemblies. Remember you are dealing with 25+ year old parts, even if you do have some NOS parts. Things happen. Not a total loss, just a pain in the butt. LOL
Mr_RPM
10-03-2010, 11:24 PM
oh, its really not to big of a deal. things happen, out of such a experimental build (to me anyhow) i figured something would happen, i just didn't expect something built to OEM spec would brake. oh well could have been worse.

here is some new pics. Turned out bad, it was a crappy disposable. i had like 5-8 more pictures that didn't turn out. time for a digital
so far into the trike is:
10.5:1 56mm rocky piston (125cc)
new valves
HD valve springs
rocky race cam
new cam chain
new rocker arms
rebuild crank
new clutch plates, fiber plates, new clutch springs, and other parts
dg exhaust
24mm mikuni round slide carb with powroll intake
ported and polished (i wish i had better pics)
new engine seals and gaskets
and more things Im either forgetting or they are just small details that I don't know what they are called or worth mentioning.
I still have alot to do but It should go faster then what my pace was at with the engine.
Im sure Ill be adding more as i remember.
Ill be posting pics of my 2 new quads in quad forum so check them out

yeah, that was the first thing I did after having it get hot. Its a little rich but I'm not going to mess with it yet. After we get it more put together and dial it in I might need to jet down just a bit or just leave it for the upcoming Michigan winter.
Harry, Ill be getting a camera soon I hope and Hopefully it will have video. then youtube...all never done so it might take me a bit.

Coming along slowly. Ill post more pics in a bit, I didn't figure out how to get clear pics till after i took these.
Its going slow because we get caught up on small details like needing a case bolt, or the shift shaft seal is leaking....Im thinking it will be done at the end on January.

Do you have the back tires over inflated?
Mr_RPM
12-26-2010, 08:43 PM
no, they are at 3 PSI. It may look weird since the fenders are just laying on the frame and are all crooked since theres no mounting brackets connected. also the back is on a cinder block and the trike is resting off the ground if that is any reason to look big.
they are 22-10-8 maxxis 4-snow, Im kinda setting it up for the dunes, thats why i went with such a big tire, esp on the front.
Bretmd94

I like the 4-snow tires. Probably better than the old pro-wedge 2's. I might have to find a set for my 200x.

sure am, july 4th weekend is the big plan with me and the guys.
the 110 is like a week away from being done, waiting on a seat cover, light, and lug nuts. lol then i just gotta dial it in.
Mr_RPM
03-15-2011, 04:04 PM
So the 110 is just about done, needs a light and needs to be dialed in.
We are having a good challenge getting the carb dialed in. we have made big progress but no matter what the throttle response is poor. you cant stab the throttle and need to feather it up in RPM a bit before you can get on it a little harder but still cant aggressively stab it like if you were to do a wheelie.
2nd, when riding on it hard, it hesitates and kinda bogs and accelerates slowly when in mid range rpm and have the throttle Fully open, but once the rpm gets higher up the engine wakes up and launches. it really pulls hard, but then you shift and find yourself slowly accelerating until you get the RPM back up.
you can instead let off the throttle and keep it at 3/4 throttle (ish) till you get her up in RPM then floor it and it launches.
My question is, what would you do to the carb next? to fix mid range RPM hesitation.
we have moved the needle to all positions, jetted from a 120 to a 140 main, it seem to like the 130 main with the clip all the way up (or at lowest clip position). with the 140 it runs even better at higher rpm but has more hesitation at mid range rpm.
so I guess its not so much the carb but rather the engine just does not like alot of fuel at lower rpm at WOT but once it gets to higher rpm at WOT it loves the fuel.
what have you 90/110 guys done to fix this? maybe I need to play with the intake? make it more restrictive?
we are just starting to play with it and I hope to figure it out, but anyone have suggestion? ask away because i may have explained this poorly.
oh, ill get pics soon. and a video. i kinda want to wait for my light and it to be running 100%. if i can get it to pull smoothly like it does at high RPM it will be super fast.
already faster then the 200ES.

03-15-2011, 04:11 PM
If jetting and needle settings dont help it sounds like it wants a longer intake . I run into this all the time were some motors like the long one and some want the short one . I just play with different combos till I get it right LOL . You can also try playing with the pulse generator timing a little to see if that helps . Your running a NGK spark plug ? Also it might want a little exhaust back pressure the cobras dont give you any .
Mr_RPM
03-15-2011, 04:21 PM
yes, a new NGK, and it looks perfectly healthy. but we have been changing the jetting around so much it would be hard to say whats lean and whats rich at this point.
we are going to try and play with a carb more but I dont know if we will be able to cure it just by playing with jetting. we tried using a narrower needle but it didn't like to run after it was off the pilot jet.
If we cant fix it doing that, would you recommend a longer intake? Im using that real short Powroll you sold me.
the exhaust is a DG (if that makes any difference) might try putting a cap on it for some back pressure.
shortline10
03-15-2011, 04:30 PM
That carb has to be close because it came off a well built 110 stroker motor and ran perfect so I would say play with the pipe back pressure a bit and if that doesnt do it try a longer intake .
It takes time , none of these hoped up 110 motors run perfect right out of the box LOL .

Got the 110 DONE!
She is right on the 200s as far as strait line speed.
Tons if high end pull, like a mini Banshee haha. It exactly what I was going for.
I really would like to give BIG shout out to Shortline10
Mike, you Helped in so many ways its almost like you were right here helping.
You not only donated alot of time and advice, but also lets us use some parts for free to diagnose problems and only asked for the parts not used to be returned.
Its pretty awesome strangers who have a common interest can do so much and end up with a built machine. You are the true meaning of what 3 wheeler riders are. I hope to be able to ride with you one day.
Big thanks to everyone else who has helped with parts and advice too.

thats the plan, i have had it since I was 7-8 and it was my first machine ever, its been so loyal throughout the years of me moving to quads and things, after getting back on it I realized its always been there for me and it was time to do a full rebuild so its there the next few decades. Thanks to this site I found out about available race parts and ended up going that route. now its new and improved
