Figure we'd share our project with you all.
We're new atc nuts....well sorta, I had ridden them new, but that's been a long time ago. They weren't mine, and I already was into my 70 Honda SL350......so did not get one for myself.
So this year, I figured I'd start again with my 17 year old son. I picked up this trike advertised as a 83 200M. When we picked it up, to my pleasant surprise it was a 84 200es Big Red. It had seen much better days. Horrible paint job, rusted frame, broken parts, not running etc. The right fender had been cut for a badly welded aftermarket muffler. The headlight was barely attached, as the chrome frame had rotted away. A toggle switch was used in place of the key switch and the indicator lights were long gone. Missing parking brake and cut cable.
Here are some picts of it.
I let my son have at it. He has done a great job. Took it completely apart and cleaned and repainted the frame, engine etc. We have sealed the tank, and its ready to be painted. We have a plastic welder, and are fixing a few cracks on the fenders. All missing and broken parts have been replaced thru ebay purchases. It is nearly complete, and when painted will attach the perfect repro decals thru Harlan.
I did break down and buy the chinese carb. The original one just was not cooperating on the low speed jet, and I had enough of trying to get it right. It was full of green gunk to start with. The chinese carb works really well, and no issues here. We drained the oil and cleaned out the filter. It runs well and we've done a few test drives already.
I even found my Bell Moto 3 Helmet....well the Scott goggles are long gone...but it works!! Glad I never got rid of it.
Yeah, I spent more than I paid for it ($150):D, but has been well worth the experience for my son.
When done, we'll post the picts...we still have 2 85 250sx trikes to get to next.....
