The dual oil cooler "how-to" ive seen havnt been to indepth i think so i thought id thow out a few more pictures and details.
after close examination i noticed i wouldnt be able to mount the second cooler in the exact opposite spot to make it a mirror image because the tank is shaped a little off.

I went ahead and ground the plate off and found where i can put the second cooler so it doesnt interfer with the tank and it should still look good.
http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo231/blkstangman88/Mobile%20Uploads/131.jpg
To make the second cooler mount up i had to trim one of the tabs off and tig it up on the opposite side of the cooler....The mount isnt welded in this pix but you should get the point
http://i379.photobucket.com/albums/oo231/blkstangman88/Mobile%20Uploads/128.jpg
After mounting the second cooler where it doesnt interfer with the tank, scoop or exhaust i went ahead and cut off the mounts for the original cooler and moved it fwd so both coolers are symmetrical.....i used 4 2in steel bolts and nuts so i could weld the bolt heads to the frame and the nuts to hold the coolers out where i wanted them.

I think it came out pretty good. once i get the engine in ill have custom oil lines made up.

oh trust me, the triples clear. i do need to have stops welded on the 250r triples i got but i do have full motion left to right all the way to the tank.

Where are you riding that your having cooling problems? I did my dual coolers before i knew a lot about jetting, i was lean thats what caused me to run hot. It was something that was fun and cool but unnessary.

i got a big bore piston with 13 to 1 compression and a stroker crank which makes it close to 13.5 to 1. means more heat. so to protect my investment i went ahead and added this 2nd cooler since the frame was alrdy stripped. i dont have it running yet, this is all thinking in advance for future rides

Thats cool, I like mine and the position i was in before i would do it again. It was fun and is still neat. I went with a much larger secondary one. i would take both of them to that larger size if i did it again. The nice thing is when i ride it in the desert at 120* i dont have to worry about it.

Very nice work - It should stay much cooler now
I ride sand dunes about 90% of the time, so keeping things cool is a must. Ive installed a temp guage but want to go with dual coolers

Looks really good there, hopefully everything clears them but they will certainly help in the life of that engine.
These things can run SO hot, I try to avoid hot days but guys run in the desert at very high temps. So, high temps some doable but anything to keep the oil temp down must help longevity of the motor.
Nice adjust-ability factor, later you can make up some 6061 alloy spacers when you have them exactly where you want........
You didn't need that plate anyhow, I think some of them help get air into the airbox; Nothing a few holes can't fix :D

i was wondering if i could do that on my 350 thanks for doing that if i do it im going to use bigger coolers on each side ive lost 2 motors because of heat and now im paranoid of going up hill for more than 10 min at a time i pinched a over flow tube on the rad on my IT 125 and the rad blew up and burnt my leg i didnt turn off the motor right away because i was on the ground screming it never ran right again

If you have gone through 2 350x engines you have some major issues. Get that cleared out before you go trying to run around fixing the wrong issues.

i never wreaked a 350 i overheated my first bike and my IT 125 blew a rad and the motor burnt out cause it layed on the ground at full throtle with no water while i was laying on the ground sceaming from the crash and the overheated coolant that was all over my leg i can handle crashing but that $h!t is hot

you can see why i get paranoid about over heating a motor it kills alot of motors around here i live in the hottest place in canada in the summer

Hey BCredneck, we ride in 100 degrees plus.
A second oil cooler would be great but I'm still on my original 25yo untouched motor with just the single oil cooler..........

so am i but i still think this setup is a damb good idea the main trail i ride is up hill for 15 to 20 min i dont like getting the motor hot the second i smell buring oil i stop and wait till it stops i may be paranoid but ive seen peoples headers glowing red coming up that hill in the summer and ive pulled melted pistions out of two strokes ive never had a problem with my 350 but ive never riden it in the summer and i dont plan on finding out how much heat it takes to kill a motor that has had its @$$ kicked for more than 20 years i coudnt care what my trike looks like or if the brakes work or if the frame is bad but i take damb good care of the motor and if im worryed about wreking it i wont ride it

If a headder is glowing its because the jetting is off, this is very common in the honda and yamaha 450's.
I regularly ride in 110+ weather, bikes stay cool just fine as long as all the parts in them are good. Honda testes thises things in extreme conditions. They can handle it. Useually if your having problems its something elce thats causing an overheating issue.

Where did you get the larger cooler, or what is it's original application? I have been toying with the idea of dual coolers, since I have a second 350X oil cooler. Bigger is almost always better when you are talking oil coolers. If you could post a pic(s) also, I would appreciate it.

i found a small aluminum trans cooler its a little biger than the original oil cooler will it work
blkstangman88

C I didnt want one cooler bigger then the other, im not a fan of projects that look like they were thrown together with whatever I could find to fit. Hence y I got two oem coolers

i was thinking you may need more oil in the motor cause you got a second cooler to fill
blkstangman88
01-26-2011, 03:56 PM
no i got the extra oil figured out. when i get custom lines made the two lower lines on the coolers will be attached then the oil in from the engine will be at the top of one and the oil return will be at the top of the other cooler. that way the oil in the case wont b trying to fill the second cooler.
then when i do oil changes ill have a drain plug on the line that connects to the lower portion of the coolers so i can drain the coolers also. kinda hard to imagine but im sure itll work good

Exactly what he said, my trike is a POS big time, but if that motor so much as backfires i'm off to the garage with it lol, much rather put around then blow it up and have nothing at all

Didn't you wreak and destroy your 350 back in September?
