durablue 250r axle removal help

Well, I am having problems removing the durablue 2+2 axle from my 1985 250r.

The first problem was removing the collar on the right side. The manual said to basically unscrew the outer nut and the collar should pop off, right? Well it didn’t. The threads would jump, skip, not catch, and it would not pop the collar off. There was just not enough force to pop it off.
Here is a picture of the collar. I had to cut it off :-(
For future reference, how do I get that collar off without cutting it?

Here is the problem I am at now. There is a little lip on the axle that held the collar on. Well, that lip is preventing me from taking the outer nut, inner nut, and disc brake off. How do I take these things off? I cannot simply pull them off like I thought I would be able too.

You can see the lips in the above two pictures.

The axle is supposed to come out of the left side, right?? The manual says it is suppose to (or that is how I read it) but my dad will not stop arguing with me. He is convinced that it should come out of the right side.

i got a axle like that if you just whant the disc off just grind 1 point off the big bolt

You need to pop off that ring its in a groove look where it splits pry it up and use a screw driver to hold it up and use another one to pry it off.

The more i look at it it looks like you need to back off the bolts to pop the ring out

What you have to do (just went through this with my 85 250r and my bros 85 350x):

First off, remember these are left hand threads. Lefty/Tighty, Righty/Loosey :D

Also, you will need some serious muscle, chances are that thing is seized or close to it.

-Loosen the lock nut (the bigger of the two) Standing at the back of the bike you will be pushing the wrench down. All we had was a big pipe wrench which chews up the edges if you aren't careful. I think a 24" crescent wrench is big enough too. Loosen the lock nut so it is all the way at the end of the threads.

-Next, loosen the smaller axle nut until you can push the collar back enough to expose the snap ring.

-As sixpack said, take a couple small screw drivers, or what I used is one of the tiny dental pick things to pry under the ring. Chances are it will take a few trys to get the ring freed up and out of its groove.

-you were saying you cut off the collar. Did you damage the snap ring in the process? If so, better replace it. Its what the axle nut pushes on to keep tension on your bearings. You might look at getting a new axle nut assembly too...

-After you've got the snap ring off, the axle nut should just pull off, then the brake rotor hub. Mine was EXTREMELY seized on. We had to heat it up red hot and beat the trailpro trailpro trailpro trailpro out of it. Hopefully you are much luckier.

And, yes, the axle pulls out from the chain side.

Also when you put it back together, use some anti-seize lube on the splines of the axle. Don't forget to locktite the big lock nut

That Lip that i pointed out in the above picture is the snap ring right? That snap ring is in a little grove that i need to pry out? Once i get that snap ring off i should be able to just pull the outer nut, inner nut, and disc brake right off, correct?

EDIT* Is that snap ring a solid round piece or is it cut in once place? Just wondering.

Once i have done that i should be able to get my rubber mallet and just pound/pull the axle out of the left side of the bike, correct?? I still need to review the manual some more, but i think that's about it.

the ring look like its solid wire snap ring use one screw drive to lift it one under it and work your way around it and it will pop off. don't mess it up you need to reuse it . its their so if the bolts come loose the axle doesn't come out all the way then you can use the mallet to get the axle out.
