I recently had my 185 fixed and was talking to a buddy who knows more about wheelers than I. I was trying desperately to find the REAL capacity for my 3-wheeler passenger wise. My wife and I like to ride our trike together (of course very safetly. :) Anyways everything i have found on the specifications states just the dry wieght not the passenger and cargo weight. I am sure even if I found the dealer specs the ACTUAL user weight is much higher, I mean come on the weight rating for a honda rancher is like 250 lbs and we have tripled that easily. TY for the read yall and have fun. Oh, so the actual question was what would be the real world weight limit on my trike.

I am thinking the weight capacity is roughly 230 lbs if I am not mistaken. That weight is like any other manufacturer weight as you mentioned above about the Honda Rancher. Just like any 1/2 ton pickup - total weight capacity is 1000lbs - so basically put 3 big guys in the cab weighing 300 pounds each and according to the manufacturer - you can only haul 100 pounds in the bed. I regularly ride with my wife and lots of gear on my 250ES Big red - and we probably have 450 pounds of capacity - it does just fine.

If you are looking for an "Actual" number - you won't find one - it would be like Ford saying - you can "Actually" haul 4000 pounds in you 1/2 ton pickup.

As atctim stated you will not find a "real" answer... Its doubtful you reach any mechanical limitations.. it all boils down to how much weight your skill level and judgement will allow you to safely control.. obviously what works on flat ground may not work goiing uphill or down... the more weight you add the more your control and safety will be compromised. Just pack what you feel you can safely manage and you should be OK...

linda and I weigh 300 together.

We do ALL kinds of stuff with ours around the farm.
Prob 1,000+ hrs riding time experience.

Riding together in the dunes. same trike BR 1987. bulldozer limo...
Dead flat and level, 1st or 2nd gear slower than you could run for sure.
INSTANTLY
we're lying on the side, gas dripping into my shirt pocket.

How could that have possibly happened????

She may have looked up and away at a bird or something throwing off the balance.

Funny as h&^*( too because we had been riding all day on some really fun sweeping trails.

Strange stuff can happen INstantly and for no reason.
