Bought a very clean motor from Ceaserthethird and had it shipped to my end of the world. It was packed in the best you could every pack.
Now I went to pick it up at the post office and they kindly dragged the container out across the floor and I see the container was busted open on the bottom and the only thing that was contacting the floor was thr shifter shaft spline.

So last night I opened up the container and the only way that motor broke that container was a hard throwing around. Very thick padding all over the place. And the shifter shaft is bent.

Very mad with post office. How much trouble to get a shifter shaft and seal? How much tear down ti replace this shaft?

Thxs

I may have an extra actually from the bottom end of a 85R. Should work.. I'll double check when I get home today. I "think" its in good shape.

Its been a while since I tore into one of these, but I believe the clutch cover has to come off and its under the clutch basket. It then slides out from the right side. I hope it didn't crack the case because this sucks to hear.

Well theres no damage outside minus the seal. Inside my fingers are crossed. Hopefully someone has one to sell me.

Cut off the outside before you bang it through, it should slide right out. It's not worth damaging the case boss down there......

Good tip for sure. Don't need to add to the damage on my own.

OK just went out and took pics of mine. If you want it. One thing I noticed is it looks kinda mangled.. I;ll post the pics here in a few minutes.

Here they are. It looks OK, but the one side is mangled... I took a close up of that. Dont think I would use it. considering how much of a pain it would be to have to replace if it does not not work. But PM me if interested.

Thxs for the pics. I will keep it in mind. This motor is really clean so I am hoping to find a mint one. Can I still buy them new I wonder?

bolt the lever on and see if it works still. it's not that critical. if it's not leaking or binding , just use it if you want.

you could slip a jack handle over it or something and give it a few nudges to straiten it and throw a new seal on it. it will probably be fine for years

I can see the gap around the seal. It leaked out the bit of fluid that was in it thru there. I can't see trying to bend it back into shape helping me at this point. Thxs for the advice tho. I believe I am going try running it thru the gears before I buy parts.
