I joined this site back in 2008 when I got an 85 Honda 250sx free from a buddy. I put some time and $$ into it and got it going until I made the mistake of parking it for a while with ethenol gas still in the tank and carb. You can all imagine what happened so it sat in my shop for over two years accumulating dust and looking sad. I finally pulled it out of the shop last week and began to work on it again. I purchased a new throttle cable and fuel petcock valve and spent a good bit of time installing the new parts, cleaning out the gas tank, and rebuilding the carb. I still couldn't get it to run without pouring a little gas in the carb so I disassembled it again and consulted the service manual someone had scanned and posted online. I realized the pilot screw had broken off and what was left had permanently fused itself to the body of the carb. I just PM'd a member of this site about a replacement carb so I'm hoping I'll hear back from him soon with good news that he still has it available.

In the meantime, hello again to everyone on this site! Thanks for the great resources that are available here. Hopefully, I'll be riding my 250sx again soon!

Thanks to a member here I was able to get a replacement carburetor which I cleaned up and installed this afternoon. Then, I rode my 250sx today for the first time in over two years!!!! It felt great to ride it around a bit. I couldn't do too much since I can't ride on the street, but I let it run for about half an hour. I also gave it a quick rinse to knock the dust off. I still need to adjust the clutch and do a few other things, but she runs and that's a huge step in the right direction. Here are a couple pics I took after rinsing her off. I got it with the plastic tank, but the rear plastic is new. I guess I need polish the tank using the instructions in the tech section and buy to get a decal kit to dress it up a little. It's not a show bike though so as long as she's mechanically sound that's all I need.

I saw your post in the other part of the forum. I'm jealous! You got a steal!

Now I just need to find a good(legal) place to ride that's not too far away.

Yes, at Croom, but it's kind of expensive.

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm finding that I'm missing a few miscellaneous parts here and there so I'm on the lookout for them. I got a box of parts from Service Honda this week and am waiting on another part from a board member to arrive. As soon as I find a heat shield for the exhaust pipe, the top part of the battery box, and a tail light lens I'll be doing some work to get her freshened up a bit.
