Anyone know anything good or bad about these machines?

fast, my uncle had a bunch of problems with his, mostly small things. I'm not a fan of polaris just because of their reliability. if you don't mind working on them more frequently than a honda or yamie they are pretty decent, handled pretty good, the polaris cushy ride, handled decent size jumps pretty good also. Little on the heavy side though.
Depends what you wanna do with it really.

I had one from 1996 until 2000 and sold it to buy a street bike (it was one of the first Scrambler bodied/framed new models to come off the production line) - Great machines, quick out of the box but with a few mods they scream. The motors come with 36 h.p. stock, but with a good pipe, Boyesen radvalve and a 38mmTMX carb they put out nearly 50 !!!. Not the best handlers in the world but are great woods machines. I'm currently looking to buy a second one after I sell my 250X.

the whole automatic thing is gay to me sorry to say if im going to buy a quad to race/build up its going to have a 5 or 6 speed with clutch it gets old just sitting there pushing the thumb throttle all day and not being able to shift it at all. that and they way a ton if you like polaris id buya predater (spelling) they are much better to me. being they are lighter and have gears to shift threw the only bad thing is its 4 stroke wich i hate also. LONG LIVE THE 2 STROKES :D

Wisen up tool, they're 2 strokes - you don't have a clue what your talking about. I guess you dont like snowmobiles either ... they must be gay, they're automatics.

no i just hate polaris 4 wheelers because they are automatic and weigh as much as a small car the only one i dont mind it the predater (spelling) because it has a manual tranny and is a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro load lighter then all the others. but if all your into is hunting then a polaris is fine but you better bring a winch

HAHA, goto a real quad drag sometime.....See all those gay automatic polarises SMOKING modded banshees, 250rs, what have you? Automatic? No. Fun? No. Fast....can be. Don't go into a gun battle loaded with blanks, because that is all you are shooting.

true dat.. dont dog the autos.. if you race a real one, youll get spanked everytime...
I laughed the first time an old polaris got up on the line with me.. my jaw dropped and he filled my mouth with sand...... Polaris' can be hopped up to be pretty damn bad!

In theory, standard is the way to go. Easier to make hold up to the power...shifts CAN BE quicker and more precise. The margin for human error here is what decides it, and when you can burn up a quarter mile in less then 10 seconds the benefits of the slushbox will become horribly obvious.

Not when you got so much power your clutches are slipping and your not getting all your HP and TQ to the rear wheels. If geared correctly, autos are the way to go.

Yep, I agree w CHAINSAW auto's are the way to go! That is why snowmobiles run so good, No lapse in power delivery, always on the torque peak!!!!

i have a 2000 scrambler 400 4x4. before i bought it i was alittle worried about getting the auto, however now that i got it it's awesome. i bought the HPD race mod kit for it and the quad screams. (stock is 36 hp, Hpd kit is 70 hp) with the auto no matter what your doing, when you hit the gas the power is right there. no waiting for it to hit or downshifting.
also having the 4x4 and reverse means you can wheelie it in reverse.

i got a 2000 polaris trailblazer 250 2 stroke auto, it will do about 50 miles stock, mind you it is heavy, and its go like 18 inch rear wheels (not stock i dont think)
I am going to pipe it, re jet, clutch kit and new sprokets, my dad also has a 2003 polaris sportsman 600 twin, only modd is K&N filter, it does about 65 miles an hour, but i can barely move it!!

I was at my local polaris dealer the other week. Checking out some 4 wheelers. There nice, fast(well most of them). I like them. I have ridden a 500 sportsmen and is that thing fast. But living in the moutains there are not that many spots were u can max them out . Cuse if you do then a dear runs out you hit it. You go for a nice ride threw the air and put a nice band in trailprotrailpro atv. But other then that I love them. If i had the money to waist I would buy the preditor.
