Sorry for all the questions lately, trying to learn as much as possible.
I recently bought a 1984 200x and the fenders were cut completely off, is there any reason to do that? Does it benifits besides weight savings? (haha)
Is there a way to check if the suspention is good, like how you would on a car?
There's a little canister on the left side under the seat, is that my break booster?
And last but not least, this didn't come with a manual, do what kin of gas should I put in this? It came with the repair manual but I can't find anything about the gas.
I'll post pictures when I get on my computer
It's a pain in the butt to get this damn thing in the bed of my truck,

ok so the benifit of cutting the fender is to get rid of the cracked parts lol, to test the shock push the back end down and see if it slowly comes back up, the canister is the rear shock resevoir, click on the blue words to download a service manual anything else pm me I just finished rebuilding one and have another one I am gonna start on soon

yours looks to be in pretty good shape compared to the ones I get lol and they clean up nice you just need a new tank and some fenders from what I can see but i'm sure it will need other stuff it is 30 years old basically, check the bearings and make sure they are good easier to replace them now then when they fail and mess up your carriers, and axles

That's what i was thinkin, i was hopping it was different answer, haha. Yea its in a lot better shape then my 185s thats for sure, luckily the top end was just rebuild so that's pretty cool.

you run diesel.
naa im just joking with you.... i always ran 87 gas in mine. always will. and since all the gas around here is like half water i pour a little iso-heet in my tank.
Nick762
04-04-2012, 01:03 PM
Now THAT would be cool!
I've been running 87 too and I havnt heard knocks but I'm not sure if it calls for something else

Another question, is the twist throttle factory?
yaegerb
04-05-2012, 01:40 PM
Nope, thumb throttle is factory. Ever ridden a three wheeler with a twist? Not fun in my opinion.
Nick762
04-05-2012, 01:53 PM
Damn, ya my 200x has twist. I'd prefer thumb.

04-05-2012, 02:00 PM
You can switch it out easy enough. My TRX250R came with a twist which I can't stand so I switched it back to thumb. Look on eBay or post a wanted ad in the classfieds on here

Would the thumb from my 185s work?

04-05-2012, 04:23 PM
I just put a twist on my 200x rebuild and am not sure if I like it or not as I feel I don't have the control I am used too, but I am gonna give it a bit and see what happens, and since this is my trail trike maybe take it off and put it on my drag trike I am gonna start on shortly

The only think I don't like about it is when I gun it I twist it on accident, thank god for working brakes

Yep I find that working brakes come in hand at times lol
Nick762

Yea the 185s had very bad brakes, found that out the hard way.

Are my foot pegs factory? You can see em in the pic, I don't know what's factory and what's not so I'm tryin to figure it out.
Also, is there a plate or something that's suppose to go over the front sprocket?
yaegerb
04-07-2012, 07:57 PM
Yes, those are the correct footpegs and yes you are missing the case saver. They are on ebay all the time.
Nick762
04-07-2012, 08:05 PM
Oh ok I thought so.
And the case saver I wasn't sure cause my 185s or my 200X doesnt have it.
Any other question, what are the two generation of 200X?
Is it like how Pontiac Firebirds have 4 year spacific generations? Or is it motor spacific or what?
yaegerb
04-07-2012, 09:00 PM
First Generation is 1983-1985. Most of the components on all three of those bikes are interchangeable.
Second Generation is 1986 and 1987. Those bikes were made fairly specific and not many parts are interchangeable between the first and second gen.
Some other fun facts:
1983 swingarm is a round tube design whereas 84 and 85 are a square tube. In 86 they start using a bearing carrier.
Easiest way to tell a first gen from a second is the frame. 83-85 use a round tube and 86-87 use a square tube.
86-87 have a decompression lever whereas the first gen's do not.
86-87 have six speeds whereas first gen's only have 5.
Any other questions let me know. I have rebuilt about 8 of these and currently on my 9th.

Woah, thanks buddy!
Which generation is better? I'm thinking second generation
110klt
04-07-2012, 10:10 PM
I am guessing second generations have a higher compression ratio? And 6 gears I would think would only benifit for track racing not so much day to day riding.
yaegerb
04-07-2012, 10:24 PM
Compression ratio's are fairly comparable....9:5.1 I believe. I may be incorrect and would have to check my manual. 6 gears is nice but I have always preferred the first generation due to the availability of OEM and aftermarket parts. There isn't much in the market for good high performance components for the second gen.
yaegerb
04-07-2012, 10:25 PM
oh and don't let 200cc's fool you. A properly built first gen x is pretty darn fast and has good torque.
Nick762
04-07-2012, 10:29 PM
But there isn't that much after market for the first gen 200x either though, which kinda sucks.
Oh yea it's torquey. Mine will lift the tires 1st and 2nd

why do you say that? Here are some sites to try, I think you will be amazed.

I am sure I have some more. But your one stop shop for anything motor wise for a first gen is powroll.

Ive been lookin but all I usually get is like eBay and stuff.
Thanks buddy! I'll take a look over there

What's some good bolt on performance?
The last one isn't a cam site btw haha
yaegerb
04-08-2012, 08:46 AM
oops, try
www.webcamshafts.com
I knew I forgot one. www.sudco.com
As far as "bolt on performance", those days are fairly gone where you can order a brand new pipe or carb from an aftermarket dealer (however Sudco still offers 27MM performance carbs). For those "over the counter" hi-pro parts you need to watch ebay, craigslist or the forums on this site for used bolt on's. You may get lucky and run across a NOS high performance bolt on. I have been collecting parts for my flat track build for about two years now and still on the hunt for more. They are out there, trust me. Oh, and if you click any of the "parts" verbiage within this site you can see what 200x parts the 3WW community is currently offering.

That's true, on DGs site they have exhaust for mine, will that help that much?
What's a +6 stinger and all that?
yaegerb
04-08-2012, 03:53 PM
Read this thread where I talk about various pipes for the 200x.

+6 stinger? I have no idea. Where did you see that?
Nick762
04-08-2012, 04:07 PM
Swinger I mean, it's in the ATC classified
yaegerb
04-08-2012, 04:10 PM
+6 swing arm means the swing arm is 6 inches longer than stock. For another example. On my 200x flat track build, I am running a +2 (2 inches) over stock swingarm. Longer swingarms are used when the engine produces more power and you need to keep the front end on the ground :)

Ohhhhh that's a good idea, is the factory rear suspention coil red?
yaegerb
04-08-2012, 04:36 PM
yes, 84 is red, 85 is blue. I THINK 83 was red too, but not for sure. If you don't have one yet, I strongly recommend buying a manual or downloading one from this site.

My 200x came with one that works with both of mine, it's very helpful

What's the length of the factory swinger?
Thanks again for all the help!
yaegerb
04-09-2012, 12:37 PM
end to end its 17-3/4". I just measured a stock 85 swinger.

Swinger I mean, it's in the ATC classified
No it's not I bought it last week lol
Nick762
04-09-2012, 01:56 PM
It was** haha congrats on the new swinger!
Thank up buddy! I'm hopping I have a longer swinger and that could be why the fender was cut.
Nick762
04-09-2012, 02:34 PM
Does the 84 200x have tool boxes?
JJMF1979
04-09-2012, 02:56 PM
Ya they had a tool box and it is hard to find, also an extended swingarm is probebly not the reason your fender was cut it wouldn't make any sence or help out in any way and the +6 swingarm I bought is overkill and I might not even use it but I got a good deal so went for it but for a 200x anything over +3 or 4 doesn't make sence really unless your running in sand dunes
Nick762
04-09-2012, 03:27 PM
Sounds about right, I was just wondering. I was hoppin it was why but nope haha.
Ya that's true
Nick762
04-14-2012, 03:55 PM
My 84 200x has a decompression lever over the oil dipstick, but first gens arnt suppose to have It, could this mean my first gen frame has a second gen motor?
yaegerb
04-14-2012, 04:00 PM
that's your clutch actuating arm.
JJMF1979
04-14-2012, 04:07 PM
if it has a decompression lever it could mean the someone has put a 200e or other 200cc semi auto engine in it and make it an auto x. does it still have a clutch?
Nick762
04-14-2012, 04:12 PM
Oh that makes sence, I got to excited and my common sense left. How could it be a decom lever if it's no where near the cylinder? My bad guys.
Yea still has a clutch, it would loose all it's fun if it didn't have a clutch haha
Nick762
04-16-2012, 03:34 PM
My handle bars I don't think are factory, they have "909" on them and a bunch of lines in the center of them, I'm assuming the lines are the angle of the bars?
Nick762

Is there suppose to be a parking brake on my 200x?
200xman123
04-18-2012, 09:48 AM
yes there is suppose to be a parking brake
Nick762
04-18-2012, 12:45 PM
How it is on my 185s? Where it's connected to the brake lever?
200xman123
04-18-2012, 03:23 PM
on top of the clutch lever theres a little piece with a little rod on it and you push it in then pull trailprotrailpro clutch in
200xman123
04-18-2012, 03:26 PM
thats on the 200x i dont know how it is on the 185s
Nick762
04-18-2012, 07:15 PM
I'll take a look. On the 185s is a lever thing that you flip over and
It holds the rear brake lever in place
