I've had a ongoing issue with the axle retainer clip located right of brake disk. It kept popping out of place as I applied pressure from adjusting nut. I thought I had it, I thought wrong. Axle slipped by, threw chain, toataly ripped shifter off and busted a case saver bolt. Made me sad is a under statement. I've solved the problem by making enough room for the clip to fit slightly under the disk hub. Surely it can't get off now! The damaged case fix will need attention. Who knows when.http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/ad314/3ordie/a4f0ed12.jpghttp://i947.photobucket.com/albums/ad314/3ordie/11f22338.jpghttp://i947.photobucket.com/albums/ad314/3ordie/b6f6e3de.jpg

oh boy. take your axle out an flip it. It's in backwards, the clip will slip under the sprocket hub just as it is soppose to.

I guess it could be turned either way. It's not possible for the clip to pass under the hub. The hub will push the clip out of the groove. When I disassembled the machine it was in this way. Investigating.

Ok, if we're friends you guys won't tell anyone what I did. Plane as day, axle is in backwards. The sproket hub is designed to help retain the clip just as I altered the brake hub. Sleeping at the wheel cost me to bust my lower saver bolt. It's gonna be ok. It has one more impact left in it. I'm gonna get the broken bolt out, there will be enough threads to instal a stud securely with lock tight, then I'll put a nut, barely snug with lock tight applied. The embarrassment is worth the fix. Thanks.

There we go. Rode it hard and everything stayed where it was supposed to.http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/ad314/3ordie/0e4e161e.jpg

Yeah, I was surprised to hear the clip came off. It is supposed to fit inside a hub, nut, or retainer ring, which makes it virtually impossible to come off because the retainer prevents it from expanding and slipping over the grove it sits in.

lesson learned, I have never seen (or remember) any atv,trike,ect.. that the locking nuts are on the left side. I'm sure there may be an exception but they are always on the right. atleast the case isn't unusable.
