Hi i am stumped with this carb. when i got the bike it would ideal, mid range wasn't the greatest and it would run at wot with no problems. when i cleaned the carb out i found that some one had pluged the the lowspeed jet and lock tied the air mix screw all the way out. I rebuild the carb and its still the same, I have a bran new air filter the exhaust is stock with all new gaskets and clamps. I am stumped with this bike.

Sometimes people use the term 'rebuilt' loosely and what they really meant is disassembled and cleaned..being as this is now your business, I'll assume a full rebuild with jets and the likes.

You may consider that the moron that plugged the low-speed jet and lock tied the mixture all the way out did have a clue what they were doing (yah think??)..perhaps the correct course is to pull the carb and look it over very thoroughly for more hidden 'modifications'!

Nothing I hate more than buying a machine that has been monkeyed with..not only are you dealing with old and worn out, but also what did the previous idiot do to it over 25 years. I love knowing that the old project before me was last touched by Japanese hands..even if it is old, at least you know where you stand.

Anyway..back to the point. If the second tear down and inspection doesn't show something your missed the 1st time, find another carb. Remember, now you are in business for yourself, time is money!!

(FYI Aaron..'idle' not idel' and 'brand new', not 'bran new' - bran is the stuff in your cereal! Sorry I'm just a spelling/grammar Nazi..make you sound smarter now that you are your own boss. From a guy whos been self-employed for 15 years it's well backed advice)

Thanks Dave let me know what you come up with.

Thanks Doug the old guy I got the business from knocks me all the time about spelling. believe me I try!! I could never spell worth a trailprotrailprotrailprotrailpro when I was young. some people are just made different from others. I have had this carb apart a few times now. Its got a full rebuild kit in it. cleaning it didn't make any differences. I fired it up after work today and it is just rich as hell nothing but a train of black smoke

Those are a wear item. Usually come with the carb kit. Good job getting it done!
