I have a 1985 Honda 200x three wheeler and it refuses to kick over. I got it out when it was cold and rode it up to our house. I shut it off and then realized that it needed some fuel. So I went to kick start it and it wouldn't kick all of the way down. The kick lever would go a couple inches and then just stop and not go anymore down. Almost like it was binding up on something. When I was first kicking starting it it was making some weird sounds but since it started I didnt worry about it and now it wont kick over at all.

could be a multitude of things....crank bearings, timing chain busted or pinched, rings busted or caught somewhere.....time for a tear-down :(

Yeah I figured it was something in the lower end. So im just waiting for a manual to come in the mail and then Ill tear into it. Should I be getting a gasket kit also, since Ive never torn a lower end apart

for what the kickstarter does move, does the engine turn at all. if it doesnt turn i would pill a side cover and see if you can spin crank by hand. it will help you decide if kickstarter or engine is problem. check out kbonly profile for service manuals

Ok thanks a bunch hopefully I will get to tearing in to in this weekend. And I know there are manuals on here its just that we have two other atcs that the manual would work for.

I took the case off and turned the crankshaft by hand. It would turn and I could hear the valves moving but it would only go about half a turn and then stop. I couldnt get it to go any further by hand.

take it out of gear and turn the e-brake off.

Just kidding, check the bolt that holds the kick start ratchet in place.

Yeah its my first time splitting the case to. I might just end up taking it somewhere just to be sure that it gets done right. But that might be to expensive. And do you have to take the entire head off to split the case.

what do you all have to take off, like the flywheel, clutch, etc.

i looked in the manual it says crankcase must be seperated. before sperating remove head , clyinder and piston, clutch and gearshift linkage ,altenator. im gonna start at the top and hope i get lucky.maybe something is hung up or pinched.if it is a bad crank bearing i might have to rethink my project. best of luck with yours.if you do tear into it yourself can you post some updates and pictures?

yeah i will and I tried to tear in it to day and I was trying to take the valve cover and head off. But I could not get the valve cover off, it wouldn't even budge. So I have to somehow get that off. But I dont want to pry on it since its such a soft metal.

The rocker box cover can be a pain. Especially if its never been tore into. DO NOT use a screwdriver to pry it apart from the head. Loosen and remove the four allen heads and the acorn nuts and then take a rubber mallet and lightly tap around the rocker box cap. It will take some patience, but eventually it will come off. Remember, do not pry anywhere on the box or any other part of the engine for that matter.

Yep i got it off and the valves and piston look good and i successfully removed the flywheel to find that my camchain was binding up since the lower bracket attached to the guide had snapped and broken off. causing the chain to become to loose and bet stuck on all of the ridges.

and Now that I got it all off shouldnt the piston and crankcase spin freely if that was my only blockage.

yaegerb

Yep see if it spins freely. Also pull up down and side to side on the rod. There shouldnt be a lot of play. If there is little play in the bearings and it spins freely I say get the parts you need along with an upper gasket kit and you are good to go.

Yep those cam chain tightener assemblies aren't that expensive and I might to a valve job on it along with the new gaskets since it blew a lot of smoke before it warmed up.

turns out. some of the plastic broke off of the cam guide. And pieces got into the lower end. so I had to split the cases anyway. But my parts should all be here by next tuesday so next week and it should be starting to come together again.

I got it back together and it started right up perfectly. And in my full vesrah gasket kit, what are the all of the little rings for? are they for the carb?
