Hi, I just bought a Big red for 75 bucks. The guy said he got it on a trade and its in rough shape. I got it running and it starts right up but I have ran into a small issue with the crab. The idle screw doesn't change the idle at all. The throttle valve looks as though someone screwed the idle screw right into it pretty hard. I looked online for one and you can get an entire carb for the price they want for a throttle valve. Anyone have any experience with these aftermarket Carburetors? And if they are worth it what's the best brand? Also anyone have any idea on a new muffler? The guy cut it off so its loud and he didn't keep it. Thanks

I've used an e-bay carb before. I can't remember which of the many "brands" or sellers it was, but it worked. It was pretty good. I'm not sure if you can use the standard rebuild kits for them when the time comes. They are so cheap that pretty much I think they are disposable. If you manage to wear one out to the point of needing a rebuild, then you can just buy another.

Are you sure you can't get the idle screw to adjust it? All it does is hold the slide a little bit more open. Sometimes, if the surface on the slide that the screw pushed on is really gnarled up, you can open the throttle a bit with the thumb throttle, adjust the screw in, and then let go. You should be able to get it to go.

I bought a O E M standard carb for an 84 200 es . That's a brand name , not a factory unit . They come pretty rich , ran it like that for awhile . Then I tore it apart and put the factory jets in it , and re-set the needle valve to specs . Runs good , no complaints . Been on the bike 5 years . Not cheap like some ,,, I think I gave 50 bucks for it .

Thanks for the input. I adjusted it like you said wonder and its idling better. Even got it too drive around a bit. Shifts pretty smooth so that's a plus. Thanks guys.

My only issue with the ebay carbs was mine wasn't threaded for the throttle adjusting screw like the stock one on my 84 200s. A few minutes with a tap solved it, but next time I'll look a little closer.
