I've been looking for a thread on here that would solve the problem of replacing the rear shock on a SX with something upgraded from the original. I found a thread that had a vague suggestion with added parts to make it work.

I replaced the rear shock with a '93-'00 TRX300 rear shock and it needed no mods. Bolted right up with the original hardware and no spacers or dowels. I hope this helps anyone who was thinking of upgrading or replacing.

How does it compare with the original? Maybe feels better because it's newer?

At its current setting, this feels like a new SX shock should feel. It's at a mild setting and the good thing is that this shock has a rebound adjustment and plenty of compression left, unlike the original. I'm 220 lbs, so the original shock in the best condition is at its limit. I'll have to experiment with stronger settings to see if it offsets the front. I just replaced the fork seals and oil so they're at peak. Of course, the SX isn't a track bike so I'm not looking to shave off seconds on the backyard trails. As long as the tires stay off the fenders, I'm happy.

Wow sounds like a good upgrade, guess it would work perfectly on a 250es also? Think they have identical rear ends.

This one looks incorrect. I don't know if being for a 4x4 is the difference

This is the exact shock that I ordered. The only part number that I found is SU1102. The ebay ad also says that it will NOT fit the 300EX. I guess I just stumbled on an exact fit shock.

It works like a charm. Had to trim the top metal bushing but that was it. Nice find!
