ATC200ES electric start issues

One of my ATC200ES has developed an issue with the electric start.
When starting it will most times make a loud grinding/grating gear noise as if its slipping, noise seems to coming from the flywheel area.
The bike does start, but sometimes needs 2 or 3 attempts where it used to start first time before the noise appeared.
I have a few spare starters and solenoids I changed them out but theirs no change.
One of the spare starters works when connected directly to a battery but when in the engine the solenoid just makes a clicking noise.

Pull the flywheel cover off. I'd suspect maybe a chipped or broken starter reduction gear. If that is the case, the pieces of metal can get into the stator and ruin the coils

Also to add to what Dave told you the gears go bad from the one way starter bearing that fails so that should be replaced as well .
