Sounds like either a short somewhere or a bad reverse/neutral sensor(s)- a bad sensor can wreak a little havoc on an electrical system. It's been a while since I wrenched on one (well a 250X actually) but I know the reverse/neutral sensor's (there are two on the same wire harness) are mounted on the right side under the motor near the oil pump. You need to do some trouble shooting - take off the switch harness and check the two wires for continuity - check the sensors for a open/closed fault. A set of new sensors will run you around $12 bucks. The change switch harness is $30.

you may have a short in the wire or a problem with the reverse system
