If I whack the crap out of my Tri Z project with a 12 lb sledge hammer with a full handle, not a wimpy hand model., what kind of energy transmitted would be necessary to do the most damage per blow? Take into account the rage factor, and the strength of the frame and other metal parts of the trike, also facto in that I am very strong when the rage comes.

Just want to be sure I dont need a larger hammer

since you taught physics, I figured I would ask you., or would your advice be to take a prozac and call you in the morning?? :D

For optimum damage, I'd increase the mass of the hammer head and go for a bit longer handle inorder to increase the moment arm. Now if you want to really damage it, go for more of a wood splitter type axe. It not only increases the mass and the moment arm, but also decreases the impact surface area to increase the impulse given to the Tri-Z metallic surfaces. However, I would wear some safety goggles in any metal to metal contact to decrease the probability of slivers in the eyes. Remember... always safety first in the lab and the shop!

PS - You know I am joking..... do not destroy the Z. Harming of innocent trikes, no matter what the frustration, should never be allowed, especially with a screen name such as "Trikeaholic"

do you mean "momentum"?? really you ought to know better. LOL

WTF is "moment arm"???

I figured you would advise the prozac, but ok, I will get a wood splitter! LOL :D

No, I meant "moment arm" That is the distance beween the center of gravity of a rotating object and it's axis of rotation. You can increase the momentum by either increasing the mass of the rotating body are increasing the moment arm distance.

is moment arm kinda like the 24 hour rule ,,, wait a moment or give it 24 hours ,,, wich ever comes first to react ???

Are trikes that take hundreds of dollars from your wallet, and hours of your time, and give you nothing in return REALLY innocent?

A reciprecating saw would do the job much better, you wouldn't be as tired when you finished and all the parts would fit in the trash can for collection!
