I know the swinger is different but what else was changed after 1983? Is the frame and engine at least the same?

Not sure about that but the 1983 swinger is completely different than the 84 and 85.

Not so. 83,4 & 5 all share the same swingarm. In fact 83-85 share the same everything, don't they?
86 was the BIG change for sure and hardly shares anything with the others.

83 swinger is different. It is make from round tube stock, where the 84/85 is square tube stock. There are some minor motor and carb differences, 83 had 110 main jet, 84 had 108. 83 has something different about front forks. 83 holds 209 cc of oil, 84 is 214 cc. Ignition is different too, 83 is 10 deg BTDC at idle, 84 is 5 deg. This is from a 83/84 honda factory shop manual

Another change through the years is the shock. In 85 they went to blue shock. Now someone with both the blue and red shock x's tell me, does the red make them sit lower or am I just crazy?

I am fairly sure that the springs are the same tension regardless of color. I dont know, there are more changes than I thought between them. Oh, the front forks on an 83-84, the bottom of the tubes is black where the 85 model is "natural".

Isn't there something different about the footpegs too?
I might be picking up a 1983 is why I'm asking. Don't care about the cosmetic stuff though. I'm hoping I can replace the stuff they upgraded in 1984 like the swinger. As long as the frame is the same it should be good.

is there any markings on the motor to tell what year it is?? becuase my 200x is a mixture of parts, and if there are motor differences, and im looking at an 85 manual i could be making some mistakes...

As far as the swinger goes...no problem there. I just put an 85 swinger into my 83 frame to replace my rusted out original and it fitted right in with no problems at all. One thing though. The 83 didn't use a dogbone/shock mount and the later ones all do.

Yeah I figured I'd need the shock mount and maybe even the shock itself. Is the brake hardware and everything the same?

Yeah, no problems with everything that I found. Chain slider bolted straight on. Brake Caliper mounts all OK. The brake line brackets go from a male set up to a female but that's just a nut to a bolt swap.
Not sure about the bottom skid plate because the swinger I got had already had them cut off so I transplanted mine off the 83 to the 85. I'm pretty sure they use the same skid plate so those brackets should be cool. Someone else may know for sure though.

The design of the foot pegs was different. The sides of the '83 were solid, where the '84 & '85 had holes in them, and were just a hair longer. I was always under the impression that the blue spring on the '85 was a little bit stiffer of a spring, than the '83- '84s.

General 200x question 1983-85
Is the stock thumb throttle housing plastic or metal? The one on my '85 is plastic but I could swear the one on the '85 I had in the 80's was metal.
