quick compresion check shoould let you know that i'd say. woudl the reeds cause that if say a petal broke off? never seen any break tho, myself. also i ahve seen one not be worth a flip cause a rat built a dang nest in the pipe. of all the places.

yea, either you broke a reed or blew it up. i would pull the reed cage out and look for any cracks or pieces missing and if they lay completely flat

when i first got my 81 250r, i was riding it and it lost power and died. it had no compression. it broke off the end of the rings on the piston. but there was no sputtering or backfiring when it happened. got a bore job,new piston and rings. good as new.

In my experience, if it sputters and backfires, its most likely an intake problem. If it just sputtered and died, than it most likely locked up. You probably just broke a reed like some of the other guys have said. Just get ya a set of boyosen pro stock reeds, they work pretty good.

Sounds like a carb, or stator problem. The pulse coil is famous for going out, even though the exciter coil can be working! My 81 250r had this problem.
