I have an 85 YTM200ERN, I can ride about 10 minutes and then it shuts off... Acts like it out of gas, but I can let it cool down and it runs fine.

try cleaning the engine up and then run some royal purple oil in it

Sounds spark related to me - the next time it "stops running" and is still hot, pull the plug and check it for spark - may be electonic related.

My Panther 440 motor does the same thing, and it's because I haven't changed the coil. Check your electronics.

Clean the petcock on the gas tank, could have rust in it. I've had that problem several times.

My 185s used to do that, so I ordered a new coil and it never did it again.
I never actually put the new coil ON it, it's just that as soon as I spent the cash on the new coil, it never did it again.
No kidding.
But I'm told the coil will cure it. Good luck.

Also check compression if very low it needs new rings, and hone job. When cylider wall is worn out it doesn't hold any oil in hone pattern and heats up walls stalling motor after awhile when riding it. Let it cool down and it will go till it heats up again.

source coil on the stator needs rewinding or replaced. it has a short. ohm out the stator to be sure.
