View Full Version : Has any one looked into lowering the sub frame on an YFZ?

I am thinking about lowering the sub frame on my YFZ because I do not like sitting above the bars. I prefer the lower Tri-Z feel. Has any one tried this or even looked into it at least. I have seen after market sub frames, but they do not specify the location of the mounting points.

Walsh makes one that mounts with 2 more points instead of the stock 2 that break easy. I'd say the main concern would be that the swingarm doesnt smack the airbox or the bottom of it during full compression if its lowered more.

I have seen that one. I like the way it looks. I have also taken into consideration any clearance issues. With the future mods I have planned, I doubt the air box will be a problem.

if you just lowered the sub frame then the fenders and/or anything else that attaches to it wouldnt line up correctly would it?

I thought about that as well. What I really want to do, is lower the rear of it. It sits at an angle. I will have to trim the plastic a bit. But I doubt it will be a significant amount.

Hey man. I tried to contact your budding earlier, but his contact page does not work.
my buddy just put the plus 2 steering stem in his.with the right bars and rear tires and maybe a drop link on the rear shock, you could have that feeling,of the tri-z

That is good thinking. I did nto know you could get a longer sterring stem. That would make the project significanlty easier. Thank you for the heads up. I will look into it.

i'm not sure if they make lowering struts for them like the trx250r's. if they dont he could make you one. you could have the hreatv prototype

i talked to hre and we dont think a lowered subframe is that good of a idea....if you think about it the seat and fenders would look like crap and not line up. plus the swingarm will crush things.
after sitting on a stockish yzf i think a longer stem and maybe moved front is the way to go....but thats your call

That is a good idea. I am going to look into thay path. I think it will turn out a lot better. I have been looking for an excuse to start spening money on my YFZ anyway.

Thanks Kasey. I really like that machine. I just do not like the way the rider sits on it.
