Hey all, I was wondering if my plan for a custom harness for my 1984 200X is on the right track or not, any suggestions would also be appreciated. To start I was planning on retaining some sort of headlight, right now I am thinking a 350X dual beam model. Also I want to use this (http://www.denniskirk.com/jsp/product_catalog/Product.jsp;jsessionid=JKYH2EDMT5DCLLA0WTVSM4VMDK0 NCIV0?store=Main&skuId=210885&productId=p210885) bar switch from Dennis Kirk with kill and hi/lo headlight functions. I would reuse the connecters I have since I sure do have alot to choose from and splice in new wiring then crimp and then tape the splice points. After that I would wrap pretty much any wires I could with that thick plastic stuff like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wire-Loom-Split-Convoluted-Tubing-Colored-Kit-40-Feet_W0QQitemZ320045507201QQihZ011QQcategoryZ46101 QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem). Does this all sound like a good foundation for the harness or not? If not what do I need to change? Thanks!

Hmmm, I was just doing some research and it seems I need a voltage regulater/rectifier in there as well... How do I wire this up to work and what can I get one off?

No answer yet? lol I may have to just dive in to the project... Or or should I just attempt to mod a stock harness for what I want? (350X headlight setup, the kill mentioned, no taillight)

im pretty sure the voltage regulator/rectifyer is for electric start.that split loom stuff is huge and doesnt work well for harnesses especially where the harness branches off.you'd be better off with shrink tube(much cleaner looking)also if you can find it there is a product which is liquid electrical tape that you put on with a brush and it hardens,i get it from princess auto which is a canadian store.that kill switch shouldnt be hard, headlight could get tricky thou

you can easily mod a stock one to work with a 350x headlight. i did it on mine. your idea should work fine ill check out my harness after school and let you know. i was going to do this but for some reason i thought there was some type of connecter you needed i dont remember. ill check my harness out wile i still have it and let you know. but yes the srink wrap or this stuff i have looks pretty clean ill get some pics to show you.

Your right, the rectifyer is used to allow current to go one way and one way only, Example from the engine to the battery, with out it the current will try to fight to go both ways. Also it's suppose to convert the AC power coming from the engine to DC power for the battery. The voltage regulator is to keep the power to 12 volt only. Most bikes with electric start have both bulit together. If your bike doesn't have eletric start you won't need a rectifyer, unless your going to run some thing that need DC power, like a L.E.D lighting kit.:)
