View Full Version : SYKO flat tracker IS READY!!!!
well I almost got my flat tracker ready for next weekend (jan 20th) all I need to do (today) axle bearings, remove front tire, tighten up a few bolts, get a few bolts, and finish mounting my nerfs, the motor runs super sweet, and I'm jsut crossing my fingers right now that I dont get Billy's luck:(
the mods I did are more to the rear suspension than anything, I decided not to use the factory shock and get a lowering link, instead I fab'd up a mount for the shorter 200x shock, also since its not on a linkage the shock dosnt operate by leverage, and is alot harder than my factory 250R shock on a linkage system, it only sags about 1 inch with me on it (225lbs) and still has 2 inches of travel, the shock will bottom before my machine, unlike before. also I had to lenghthen my air filter intake, but that was no big deal, oh and if your woundering the front tire is going tomoorow I will have my shorter, less agresive tire on there. I also added renthal twin wall bars (wich I got for 20 beans!! new!!) with moose adapters (thanks raffa!) they raise the bars up just right and dont hit the gas tank at lock, wich I still have to trim a little off the stops yet.
now I got to pick up my numbers (thanks billy!!) add a few more stickys (got 2 3 ww stickers on there right now REPReSENT!!)
future plans are a 10 inch front wheel, wider rear end and a few other changes, but nothing major

i have a few numbers if you need any,,, also have you given any thought to using 2 spring setup on the frontend? then you can put the short spring on top of the dampening rods,,, them run forks in the stock position? safer if you happen to go over the bars,,, just a thought,,, i like the rear suspension mod too,,, i think it will work great,,,,,

I apreciate that kasey!! but I'm going to get one of my X's (she works at a sign shop) to bust me off a few for me, for the free! and since the race is next weekend I dont want to take any chances of waiting on somehting in the mail,:beer My buget for this was very low, I havnt spend maybe 250 in the whole thing (including engine work) to get it to this point, I cant wait to rip it up!!!:TrikesOwn
also I jsut removed my short spring up front, and since the forks still have a fresh rebuild on them I think I will be ok, but... only time will tell!! if I do bail, I do it in STYLE!!!!

ohhh, not good!!! when you don't put the short spring in,,, when you gas it you get full extension on the front forks ,, which gives you a light frontend to high,,,, where as when you put the spring in... it limits the travell and gives you the weight of the front tire wheel and hub sooner and helps keep it down, sooner,,, been there ,,, set on your trike,, take a rachet strap to the roof and have someone pull it up,,, you will see how high its going to get when you come out of a corner with the power on,,, especially when your *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited* is over the brab bar trying to get traction,,,
10-4 good buddy!! it will be put back in!!!

are you going to use those rear tires?
yea, those tires are easy for me to break loose on the turns, hoosiers may hook up to much plus if they slide then they will wear out quicker and since its a trike of course we got to slide!! and spending mulla on a set of tires every few races isnt my idea of fun, and these are readably available and cheap. oh and case your woundering they are waaay over inflated right now:crazy:

i think you should groove them ,,your going to need more traction than those will give you,, to help equalize them in the turns,, i would do a 1/4 groove at a 45 degree angle every 20 degrees on the outside tire and maybe every 30 degrees on the inside one,,, plus stager air pressure a few pounds,,, theres more to going fast than just spinning around having fun,,,, :naughty:
well finnaly tested this thing, man its stupid!! I pulled a couple high speed drifts on the pavement at a intersection close to my house in 5th gear!!, a little more vibration in my handle bars than what I want, and the front tires sucks right this minute for it but all that will change this week.

well billys luck hit me in the face at WOT!! today!! my gf wanted to go ride the dirt rds, so I was like hey I need to run the tracker a little more and a good 5 mile dirt rd trip will do it good, so we head out, well on the first stright I open it up!! and I was gone like a missle, well all of a suden, I feal as if Im losing power! I was like WTF!? but my motor still sounded fine, and I was slowing down, well I look down and my rear is locked, so I think *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited*! I broke a chain, but nop I saw the chain, its what I didnt see the front sproket fell off!!! and wedged itself between the frame and the swinger!! I was like what!! I put thread lock on it and everything! so I manged to wiggle the the chain off the rear sproket so it can roll, then I noticed that I also blew the left tire right off the bead!!! nice!!! well glad it happend a mile from my house and not in FL on the track that would have been disatorous!!! then I got it back to the hose and fired up the 300 well about 10 miles from the house I snap the throttle cable! nice, so my Gf rides all the way back to my house to get the truck, what a nice day

Believe it or not mine came off in the pits at Jasper , I just shifted into 1st gear and let out on the throttle when it came right off. LUckily I was able to put it back on time to still get to the grid. Welcome to the twilight zone that seems like Friday the 13th 24/7!

These old rags can just act up whenever they want man! Get it back together because the season has a little hold now, moved the date a bit down and to a different track so it gives ya more time for prep and tunning skyo..
Billy you know it too, I'm sure your getting the R back together already so
might have to be called 3 wheeled flat track destruction derby!!

Sweet trike man! What is that rear lower link?
NOICE!
What numbers will you be running?
13 will be my numbers, and there is no linkage on this trike, I removed all that and make a custom mount to direct bolt a 200x shock, wich after riding is the cats ASS!! it works awesome!!

Looks nice:drool: ! Why not go with a red or black number plate? I think that would set it off even more.
well billy hooked me up with the plate, and it may end up red , I think it may be better red, but Im not wasting any money on parts I dont need just yet.

GOT PAINT ??? :naughty:

01-22-2007, 07:49 PM
yeah I painted mine red, I had some #s I over layed over the screen and just made let it stay the natural color inshape of the #s.
I've got the helmet camera but I'm not sure if I'm keeping it, I'm not really happy with the video quality, it kind of sucks. Its like an old webcam from walmart or something when you put it on the computer or TV. And it cost way to much for it to be like that. Maybe I can find another better one sometime or something.

Hey syko, you think you can fab up something like that for your airfooler? I would like to lower my ass on my Flattracker project and i would like to keep her that low. What about the wheels...is that stock rear wheelbase? or did you shorten it for some reason? Just looks a little narrow in the region around there.

I will have to look at the my 83 but I can tell you its alot harder to lower than any other trike becouse of the way the rear suspension is, and my axle and everything is stock, I plan on going wider in the rear, and when you lower the front it makes the trike shorter, I iwll let you know If I can figure out a way to lower the air foolers.

I got a helmet cam for x-mas and the video quality is almost as good as my Mini DV camera itself! It cost like 169 but you have to run it to a camcorder which I already had... I just strap on a small lightweight backpack and toss it in there... when I get around to it I'll post up some vids I took with it. Works mint for night footage too, I did some riding in pitch black with my headlight on and it worked awesome, better in low light than my actual camcorder can do.

got my new flat track tires in yesterday and go them mounted today, boy oh boy are they soft!! they said medium compunt and I checked the chart, and its the same, but damn!! I dont think I can make it but no more then 3 races on these!! well see how it goes!!

soft compound race tires only last a few races. They're built to only last a good weekend of racing anyways. That is how they were supposed to be built, as with all race tires.
well I can already tell this thing works alot better with these tires!! I used to do powe drifts on the road and now it takes ALOT to do it now!! I cant wait to race!!
