Let me start by stating what I have done so far to my son's zinger since I started having flooding/carb problems.
After going through the carb countless times I bought another used carb. I drilled the plugged exhaust after reading a thread about it on here. New plug, no air filter. Still had flooding, starting problems though it would start and run after sitting overnight.

When I put the new/used carb on I used the bowl off the original carb since it was cleaner.

I bought an aftermarket air cleaner/filter that clamps right on the carb. I checked the manual and noticed the plug that had been in the motor wasn't the right NGK plug. It is supposed to be NGK BP6HS. The parts store only had the "crossover" which is an Autolite 4123. Can someone confirm this? Now this plug is shorter than the NGK plug that was in the motor.

I dumped the gas tank out and put fresh gas in it. I put the other carb bowl on after cleaning it real good including the little starter jet thats in the bowl. I noticed the drain bowl outlet nipple was slanted up about a 30 degree angle. Installed the new air filter, new plug and confirmed it was getting fire. Turned the gas on. WON'T START. Put old NGK plug back in, same thing.
The carb doesn't leak anymore, but I can't get it to start.

I was going to check the Reeds but to get to them I'm going to have to pull the motor out and I don't want to have to do that unless the majority of the replies think that it is a reed problem.

I'm stumped fellas. I don't know what else to do. I need advice.

Well I am 99% sure my problem is the exhaust, even though I drilled it. So for any other tri zinger owners this post is for you. The "quick fix" by drilling the exhaust isn't a permanent solution.
Also, I have 2 carbs. One leaks fuel, the other doesn't. The one that doesn't leak has the fuel nipple on the bowl angled up at about a 30 degree angle.
Hope this helps someone out there.

The only real solution is to get the DG nationals pipe. The difference is amazing. If the carb is a real problem, I would look into getting a new pw50 carb from yamaha. I don't remember if you changed reeds or not, but, look into getting boysen reeds. I know it's tight, but the reeds can be changed.

Oh, one question. Will an exhaust thats made to fit the PW50 fit the Zinger?

back in the day i made my own reed cage with CR 250 reeds "cut down" and used a PW80 Carb. on my sons TRI-Zinger Rag ... it's 4 mm Bigger and ran 1.5 sec's FASTER in the 300 ft. sand drags..... but the cases and cyl. was HOGGED out abit along with a HomeMade Allum. Baseball Bat Pipe...no Silencer

With some really creative aluminum welding, machining and some aluminum pipe bending you can go way bigger than pw80 cylinder and carb. There were actually stroker kits for the the zinger at one time! Also you change change the rear gearing at the differential but you are talking about some really serious and time consuming modifying. There were some crazy things you could do to a zinger. I'm still hanging onto a handbuilt engine that would spank an mildly modified atc185. Maybe someday I'll get that going again. I would have to find some insane midget to ride the thing though. It was way beyond the average kids ability to ride.

Maybe "Weeman" from *Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**Edited**E dited*. Or even better, some midget chick in a bikini. Damn, I need to get out more often! LOL Really I would probably have to go get some small jockey to ride the thing, it was crazy. I haven't had that trike put togher in 20 years or so. Reminds me of my friend that him and I put the trike together for his son originally and as his sone got a little bigger, the trike got crazier. Shame he's not here now so we could put it back together again. He was a good friend. RIP partner.
