Anyone know if a more modern shifter that folds from a certain model Honda quad would fit on the R?

The stock one looks too old school for me, I'd like a nice aliminum one that has a folding toe, thinking of going to the dealer and see if I can match one up ?

Any cool aftermarket ones out there ?

The 81-84 250r's shifter shaft has an odd diameter the only other shifters that will go on are the 78-80 cr250 and the 79-80 cr125.

that would be a tough one to get on a 83-84, those shifters already have alot going on with them!!

Well you don't know that they are the ONLY ones but it's good info what you did find out. So you have one of them on yours, seen on another trike or what ?

Have a pic of that set up ?

I could cut the stock splined knuckle off the original and have it welded on another shifter, that would give me a lot more options then.

I have a 79 cr125 motor complete with shifter and I can tell just by looking at the shaft that shifters will interchange also I knew previously about how the 78-80 cr250's would interchange. I just don't see why you want to change your shifter I love mine.

They may interchange but is the lenght and bend right ?

I'm not saying the stocker doesn't function good at all, I'm saying I find them UGLY, it's all about looks I'm talking.

Look at Chris200X Tri Z shifter he put on, that's what I want, something simular to that .

I sent mine to dreadhed to get chromed powdercoated, if you want a custom shifter take it to a machine shop and have them make you one.

Now that looks SHARP!!!! :beer :beer

Hey, wonder if that would work on mine ?

Mines 9" long but does not need an extreme bend like that. Is that shifter originall pretty straight ?

I'd rather, if possible, find one off another model, that way everyone that would be interested can benifit from it.

There might be one from another model that will bolt right on, I'm in no rush, I'll take it up to Honda dealer and size it up against splines, lenght and bend.

I'm not to sure buddy as sblt500r spiced up the shifter when he rebuilt my motor. I would imagine there is a bent to it just not sure how much.

Your more then welcome to try it out on yours the next time we hook up. :beer

From what I was told but havent got around to do it was the old big bore air cooled Dirt bikes (Cr480 and CR450s, probably dont have the ccs right) have the same geometry as the air fooled 250Rs and supposedly bolt on. I havent seen one of those shifters in person to confirm this however

hey Huffan!! take your trike to a machine shop and ask to see how much a aluminum shifter would cost to be made, I have a local shop here that one of the guys makes all kinds of stuff for me for very reasonable prices as well (custom wheel spacers, custom 10 inch front rims, custom pegs etc..etc..etc..)
