Hey, any of you guys want to get together this year for the month of Feb. I live on a pond in the south east and plow a flat track out on the ice. Last year was my first year doing this and we had some good times Rec/Racing on a little d shaped oval (like Richmond for you nascar fans) built for handling not speed to keep the broken bones and parts to a minimum.

Sounds good!!

What do you ride?

eddie pettengil
11-18-2007, 11:03 PM
Last year I was the only one on a 3 wheeled 250r. This year will be a 250r also just don't know if it will be 3 or 4 wheeled. In the works of getting both running. There was a LT 250, 400ex, 250r (4 wheels) and a Banshee. A 200x and 350x act stopped by once and a while but they were not studded.

eddie does the people who run the car races have an atv class?

eddie pettengil
11-22-2007, 09:54 PM
They do not run any atvs with the cars. But they have two tracks set up for the cars and they change what track they use every weekend leaving a empty track that most of the rec atv guys take advantage of. I have never seen anybody get kicked off of the track as long as they are not being idiots. The track there is a 1/4 mile oval and is to fast and cold for my taste. You will see lots of guys there from 2 wheels to 6 wheels.

My track is on the NH side of the pond near the town beach. I would really like to get a good group of guys that enjoy ice racing and maybe in the future have a 4 week series with a sponcer and point fund. Really, This is New Hampshire in February what else is there to do.

Let me know if you 3 wheeled guys are going to show so I can decide what 250R to put my effort into.

eddie i live in barrington and we ride from my house to the races on milton. it is 50 miles one way. its a 100+ mile day. if you come down the town beach across from the bar is your track to the left in the cove or to the right towards cumberlandfarms?

eddie pettengil
11-23-2007, 06:43 PM
Its on the left cove leaving the town beach. Do you ride the sled trails to the pond? If so, has anybody givin you a hard time. Next trip you take there give me a shout, I'll have some burgers and dogs on the grill waiting.

badasskfx
11-23-2007, 08:02 PM
we ride the sled trails. no one said anything yet. looking forward to some dogs this winter. as soon as the lakes are safe we will be making the trip.

eddie pettengil
11-24-2007, 05:12 PM
I will keep you up to date on how thick the ice is.

badasskfx
12-06-2007, 10:17 AM
eddie how about an update? how many inches of ice so far? did you get your rig running?

eddie pettengil
12-06-2007, 11:06 PM
I just went out and took a look. We have 4 inches of ice 12 ft out from shore. Most of the lake looks ice covered except the channel from NH to ME and one or two shallow points. THIS BODY OF WATER IS NOT SAFE AT THIS TIME do to the ice not starting to build untill the snow came on Dec 3. Most of the ice is just snow that turned to slush and froze making very soft and not very safe ice. I will keep my eye open this weekend for the brave ones that don't care about there lives.

As far as the ATC, its all there just waiting on me to put it together. Going to take the best of what I have and use it on 3 wheels again this year.

NE250r
12-07-2007, 02:10 AM
Maybe ill be able to run the Tec5 on the ice this year without going to NY

eddie pettengil
12-07-2007, 07:01 PM
Sure hope to see you NE250r, This is something I hope will build year after year. I really take pride and time in keeping the track in great shape. Its always plowed and if I have to I'll cut a hole in the ice and suck water up with a sump pump and generator the night before so we can have a clean like glass racing surface on the weekends.

edog
12-07-2007, 07:44 PM
Where is this place located?

eddie pettengil
12-07-2007, 08:46 PM
The pond is in Milton, NH just off rt 125 know as Milton three ponds. North of Rochester, NH and south of Union, NH. Half the pond is in NH the other half in ME. Lots of activity on this little pond from sled drags (first weekend in Feb) to car races, fishing and skating. Sled trails lead to about anywhere you want to go (not sure if atv are allowed on trails).

badasskfx
12-09-2007, 06:03 PM
eddie any body fall in this weekend?

eddie pettengil
12-09-2007, 09:26 PM
Only 2 sleds on the ice today. I walked out to the middle and cut a hole, we have 4.5 inches of ice. My area of the pond should be good next weekend if the temps continue.

badasskfx
12-09-2007, 09:33 PM
is the track going to be an oval or will there be multiple corners?

eddie pettengil
12-10-2007, 10:45 PM
Well, I'm a fan of oval racing but willing to do whatever riders want. I will have both for this year to see what gets more use. It will be a D shaped oval with a ice course off the back straight.

Three sleds drag racing back and fourth across the lake as I type this. Getting closer, cant wait.

eddie pettengil
12-12-2007, 03:48 PM
The ice looks pretty bad today, got a little rain last night and looks like it softened it up a bunch.

I got my first coat of paint on the ATC frame this morning, looks killer. About three more coats and some set up time and I can start getting this thing back together. The only thing that can hold me up now is the birth of my first child (its a boy) that had a due date of 12/11. I know what you all are thinking, Don't worry, i'll be there on the ice ready to go in January.

badasskfx
12-12-2007, 04:49 PM
eddie we are hoping ice will be ready on the 12/30 2.5 weeks from now. where would we be parking? how many spots do you have for truck parking? cant wait im getting a boner! hope evreything goes good on the little one.

eddie pettengil
12-12-2007, 06:34 PM
Plenty of parking at my house. When the ice has a good enough freeze to drive on I can get you right on the lake and park track side. When we get a little closer i'll pm you guys my cell # so there will be no confusion on directions.

What are you guys riding, studded or not.

badasskfx
12-13-2007, 09:46 AM
i have two sets of tires. for the racing on the track full studs 275 300 a tire. for trails 50 per tire. crossing the roads kills the studs..

badasskfx
12-15-2007, 08:52 PM
eddie you a daddy yet?

eddie pettengil
12-17-2007, 09:52 PM
I'm a daddy, Baby boy on Dec 15 at 9:13 am. He weighed 9 lb 13 oz. Nothing could of gone any better. It is so exciting, Im still shaking and my nerves are still going mad.

badasskfx
12-17-2007, 11:18 PM
congrats eddie sounds like a big boy. now go plow the race track..LOL pm me your number ill call you this week!

eddie pettengil
12-18-2007, 12:10 AM
Edog, Ya this is my first, sure was a special day.

Badasskfx, Thank you. We might have a hard time getting that track plowed untill we get enough ice to hold about 10,000 lb of Ford power. Looks like we have about 9-12 inches of snow on the ice right now. I will get out in the morning and cut a hole to check ice thickness.

Bryan Raffa
12-18-2007, 07:05 AM
congrats on the baby!!!!

badasskfx
12-18-2007, 03:56 PM
i have a snow blower. might take a while but it can be done...maybe make a smaller track at first, or one with lots of turns and make the turns wide fro passing and the straights narrow, sounds like fun to me.

eddie pettengil
12-19-2007, 05:53 PM
Bryan Raffa- Thank you.

Well, I just went out and cut three holes. Looks like about 6 inches of ice, 3 inches of slush and 4 inches of very wet heavy snow. Looks like we are going to have to wait untill the snow turns to slush and everything freeze together. Any activity on the ice now could leave us with rough ice all winter.

badasskfx- I would be out there with a shovel if I thought it was ready.

eddie pettengil

eddie thanks for the link i was looking for that club today..... im ready to ride sunday the 6th. i have 6 to 8 bikes ready to tear up the ice...

eddie pettengil
12-27-2007, 09:38 PM
I tried to e-mail the club about trikes but it seems there e-mail is down. I should be ready for the ice on the 6th. Frame should be done this weekend and I can get it back together in a week easy. Looking forward to hooking up with you guys.

eddie pettengil
12-29-2007, 04:02 PM
Hey Badasskfx, Where are you guys planning on going on the 6th. Is your group of guys more of a trail ride group or are they more interested in some type of track.

I'm more of a short track rider where speeds are lower and handling is the key to getting around fast. This makes for better racing overall considering a 200x (if set up right) can get around just a good as a full blown 450r. The racing is tight and very exciting with wheel to wheel action.

Here is a track pic of what i'm talking about http://www.quadpit.com/zoom/hara-02.html

Of course majority rules up here in New Hampshire. If you can find pics of a track that would be fun lets see it. Just need a idea of what I need to build to get a good group every weekend.

badasskfx
12-30-2007, 08:11 PM
eddie i contacted the club and they said no threewheelers. as far as the track goes that one above looks good. i would like to have a fairley long back stretch for some higher speeds. we plan on just running ice on sunday. as of right now there is four guys for sure and three that are not sure. how does the ice look? will you need some help making the track? give me a ring.

eddie pettengil
12-30-2007, 11:05 PM
well that really stinks about no 3 wheels, It could of been fun.

That track in the picture is about 3/4 of what i had last year. the straights will be longer, and the width will be double.

we have plenty of ice for riding (8 1/2 inches) but it is in really bad shape. the sleds really beat it up pretty bad by riding on it when it was slush. now its froze solid.

We are looking at about five inches of snow tonight, if we could get the track plowed (to early to get my truck out there) and flood it with water, we could have a great track by sunday as long as the weather stays freezing. I could come up with 2 snow blowers.

badasskfx
01-01-2008, 11:31 AM
friday or saterday works for me. friday would be better but i cant get there until 630 or soo. that way we could flood the ice and hope fully it will be nice for sunday. give me a call tomorrow on my cell and well plan it out...

eddie pettengil
01-01-2008, 04:11 PM
ok, Friday it is. i will get the snow blower tomorrow and start chipping away at it. i'm going to try and get some help also. it is going to get into the single digits on friday night so it would be great if we could flood it.

anybody interested in helping, got a extra blower

well got home at mid night last night... eddie you did a good job blowing! LOL well we finally have a track we can ride and it only cost the life of one snow blower..... hows it looking out there eddie?

eddie pettengil
01-05-2008, 01:46 PM
Lets go guys, MILTON MAYHEM SHORT TRACK MADNESS is set to go, park at the town beach and stay left on the lake. If that area is full walk out to us and i'll get you a spot.

Looks better today, just got back from taking a couple laps walking with the dog. the sleds took a couple laps and packed it down pretty good. corners are a little rough but we will fix that in a couple laps. Also,3 trucks were out on the ice so it's plenty safe. Well, I hope i dont shoot the connecting rod out of the atc like i did in the snow blower. going to be pretty slick up high in turn 4 with those 2 quarts of oil sprayed everywhere.

Really had a good time on Sunday, everything went pretty well considering I had a bare 250r atc frame 5 days before. Had a little coolent leak that kept me from turning alot of laps and also a tire that went flat every 20 minutes. The 16 year old top end did its job with 3rd gear high revs and only a 150 main jet. Ya, I was a little concerned with that.

We ended up with a total of 8 wheelers, (4) KFX 700, (2) Z400, (1) 400EX and (1) ATC 250R . We really killed the track and sprung a leak low in the middle of turn 1 and 2 by lunch time. After some burgers and dogs on the grill we went back at it and finished the day by getting really wet.

I would have to say Badasskfk really had a good hook and was class of the field. Looking forward to getting together again as soon as we can.

eddie pettengil
01-08-2008, 11:41 PM
no chance of getting a ride in this weekend. tracks got 2 inches of water on it and no freezing temps untill monday. should make for great ice once all this melts and then freeze nice and smooth. we got to start planning a another day to get together.

badasskfx
01-09-2008, 08:42 PM
hopefully we will get cold weather with no snow. do you know how much ice is still out there?

eddie pettengil
01-10-2008, 06:27 PM
we have about the same amount. the ice hold its own with the cool nights. we might even be gaining a little believe it or not. The snow melts and freezes at night. yesterday there was 2 inches of water on the track at 4 pm and this morning it was froze solid.

01-11-2008, 08:57 PM
Just looked at the ten day forcast and looks like the freezing temps are coming back next week. Friday looks to be the only day above freezing. i'll get the track prepped this week as long as we dont get another big snow storm.

Sunday the 20th it is guys, we had 8 atv's the first weekend it would be great if we could add another 2-3. Come on trike guys, you all left me out there alone last week.

badasskfx
01-11-2008, 10:34 PM
eddie ther talking snow for monday i think. i hope we can get the track a bit longer. parking was just enough last time where are we going to put more trucks? did you find out whos snowmobiles and trailer that was?

edog
01-12-2008, 12:09 AM
also what lake is that?

White Lake is it's name.2 miutes from my house.

eddie pettengil
01-12-2008, 12:38 AM
I will plow my yard off for parking if I have too (lol). We can park up the side of the street and the town beach should work also. As far as the snow goes, we will just have to see what comes of it. I'm thinking we will be all set. Might be able to get the truck out there at the end of the week. Only positive comes from me bud.

I have some mail coming from the fish and game department to let me know what I have to do to have a event on the Ice. I'm really hoping to turn this into a weekly organized ice racing series. If not that at least one big event a year.

badasskfx, you out there catching all those crappie. If you dont already know , a 5 inch bait fish rigged 1.5 feet off bottom is killer for the pickrel out there off to the right of the island. Sometimes you need to pull it up to 4 feet depending on how high the weeds are. I have done a ton of fishing for every type of fish at one point. All I do now is troll for salmon in the big lake. The boat you asked about out back is rigged for fishing really good, trolling motor, down riggers, fish finder, raised decks with swivel seats.

Not sure about the ridding this weekend, all depends on getting the track clean. Don't have the balls yet.

badasskfx
01-15-2008, 12:24 PM
all we caught was pickrel, 9 fish ranging from 14 to 22 inchs. we were fishing in 10 of water. the otherside of th road from island.

We are good to go. Track is a basic oval that is almost 1/8 of a mile. It's bigger and wider than last week and also faster. You will need to brake going in or back off early untill we get a good grove going. Backstetch is a little rough. Hope to see you guys there. Come find us near the town beach.

Milton, NH on Milton Three Ponds. You would get on 95 N to NH and get Off on Rt 16 N(Spaulding Turn Pike) all the way to exit 17 (1/2 hour) and stay right off exit and left at stop sign and pond will be on right about 2 miles and town beach about 4 miles up.

We are all studded.

ya had a great time, thanks for the food and the cooking. started the day off with 3 bikes (man they fly around that track) and 6 atv's that seem to be very even on speed. the track itself is very fun to race on keeping us all pretty tight.

the garage is open all the time when we ride. get cold, head to the heated garage, get warmed up, have a drink or some food on the grill and go back out. you will also be able to park right on the side of the track if you want too. i plow it with a f350 so trust me its plenty safe.

I would like to try and set a date up in feb to try and get everyone out there and do some heat races and feature race. got some things running in my head where 12 atv's could make for a pretty fun show. i'll post details later on how it would work. i'll even buy the overall point winner a trophy.

hey i also got a little water on the track tonight, should of helped on the straight.

thats sweet bud, i got myself and one other guy. also just picked up new ice tires so i'll get more than 20 minutes at a time to ride. i think the ice races start this weekend so that might bring a few also. thinking of going out and getting a fresh coat of water on the track but feeling a little lazy.

come on edog, got plenty to do here, the sleds have packed down a 1/2 mile wide open run if thats more your style.

So, hows the old 20 year old atcRelic stand up to the big bores?

The ATC is alot of fun on the ice, it seems like I have to enter the corners alot slower that the quads but it makes up for it on corner exit. It hangs with them just fine but at different areas of the track. Very happy the way the 13 year old piston is running. Now if I can just take care of my leaking problems (oil, coolant and air in the tires).

Hey, got the track flooded today. Spent about three hours with the hose flooding down the bad areas. Should be real smooth for Sunday.

eddie pettengil
01-25-2008, 09:09 PM
The ice is in great shape, flooded the bad straight all the way around to mid point of the other straight. It froze before anyone rode on it, almost like a glass finish. Really going to be a fun weekend, can't wait.

i'll be parking on the ice, you guys do what you want. If your parking at my house you might want to unload next to the trail and then park your trucks that way you won't have to kill the studs on the road. 3 bikes ripped it up today and a blue four stroke quad with no studs. The lake was not very busy today. Well gotta get back to studding, cya in the am.

Another great weekend guys, thanks for showing up. Ended up with 9 quads ,1 atc and 3 bikes. For you trike guys the atc was really hooked up after taking about 6 lb of air out the front tire. I have some adjustment in mind so I should be looking real good this weekend.

We added a road course to the infield of the oval and it really added to the day. Going to keep it maintained the rest of the winter season. I flooded the track big time Monday night and Tuesday morning some spots getting more that 6 inches of water. After the rains come in tonight we might end up with a perfect level flat track with a mirror finish all the way around.

If any of you guys are planning on making it up this way, the 2nd and 3rd of Feb might not be a good turn out. Superbowl weekend plus a local ice racing event that some of our riders are planning on trying out will take alot of riders away. But of coarse I will be around and turning laps as always.

The 15th and 16th would be a great time to come if your trying to plan for it. They have the winter festival on those dates and it brings in many people to see the sled drags. Would be cool to have a full force of atv's out there to let everyone know we are here also.

You had to go and post me going that slow didn't you (lol). Trust me guys, I was moving later in the day after some changes on the chassis. The rear tires were brand new with fresh studs and were gripping to good in the corners and the front was not getting anything for grip. Ended up with 2.5 lb of pressure in the front and that allowed the rear to slide just right.

Congratsulations to Badasskfx for taking the #1 spot in the first race of a 4 race series in Northwood N.H. Good job buddy, Maybe a picture of you, bike, trophy and the trophy girls is in order (at least the trophy & girls). I hope some of the side by side racing against the trike in Milton helped. Let us know about the track and conditions you had to run in.

Just went out tonight and plowed another track for Sunday. This one is a little bigger and wider than our other track. Gonna see if that is as much fun as or tight track. I dont want to get it to where riders just run the bottom and no passing. Gonna run Sunday from 10:00 to 12:00 or untill the track gives up.
