I no its been covered, but Ive tryd everything and cant get spark on my 200S, coil, CDI, spark plug wire, boot, 5 plugs that started my BR, my next step is the spark advance, then into the stator, another common problems that cause loss of spark?

If you have a multi-meter I'd check to see if the resistance is in spec for the stator and pulse generator. I'd also check, if you haven't already, the wires going to the kill switch to make sure they haven't shorted out to each other or a ground.

Most common would be the stator

stator...... But i would definatley check the kill switch. it always seems to be the most obvious

Have you got a manual? I've got one, and a multi-meter, so I could give you a hand if you can't figure it out.

i got the Manuel, 2 actually, and a muilti meter, haven't got a chance to look at it today, probably this weekend, i believe i will go over the kill switch wiring better, i do have a couple butt connectors that could be giving me trouble now that i think about it. does the stator just go or are there signs leading up to it going?

Kill switch and bad ground for the coil are a couple I have seen that cause no spark.

I had the same problem on an 84 200s. A very weak spark. Talked to a couple of people about what the problem was. Both knowledge people told me it was probably the exciter coil in the stator. Replace it and 3 or 4 pulls on the recoil and it started.

as much as i hate to believe, the exciter coil sounds like my problem is there a special flywheel puller for the S style flywheel, like the ski-doo clutch thread in type, or just a three arm puller? and can u bench test them before putting on back in, i have 2 or 3 185/200S engines that have stators i could use, i will read up in the Manuel as well, just don't have it here at the moment.

I bought a puller from my Honda dealer. It was only about $12.00 and fits a number of Hondas. I got information from a board member here and he said that when you check the resistance of the exciter coil that is in there and the reading is below 200 ohms it is probably bad. I was told the reading should be between 215 and 240. When I checked mine I was around 190 and when I put the new one in it was around 230. You can check it by putting one probe in the black wire that comes from the stator and the other probe just get a good ground on the case. If you have a puller it is a simple job. You just have to solder the black wire to the coil.

If i do change it I'm going put on the whole stator form my other engines, so all i need is the puller, and some time. I'll check over everything this weekend and order the puller next week, if i don't find anything else first.

Maybe its different on a 200s, but on the 200e motor I have, the stator is on the outside of the flywheel, so the flywheel dosen't have to come off to get to the stator.

where the 200S/185's are pull start only, the flywheel/stator is different, i wish it was as easy as the BR's and the M's to get to it, but once i get the puller it should be an easy job to do. we gotta get for a ride this summer, worse thing is it seems like the cops around here are getting thick.

The cops are getting thick, thats what 5th is for:naughty: . Before we get out for a ride, I'd like to try and get a new helmet, you would laugh to much at the one I have now.

haha, they have a habit of pulling up when were stopped, but im all legal, as far as a helmet, as long as it does its job it don't matter what it looks like.

My helmet is an old 70's style open face helmet, and it dosen't have D.O.T on the back.

I've taken a flywheel off on a 200e with a hammer and a pry bar. It wasn't the proper method, but it got the job done, might work on your 200s.

haha yeah a DOT might be nice i guess, tested my stator today 0-10ohms one on a differen parts engine 250, and my BR 190 but its runs great go figure

lol your luckey to get the flywheel off with a pry bar and hammer.. i broke a flywheel puller from princess auto today trying to get my flywheel off.. im sure its on there for good now, luckey im pushing 210ohms.

ordering the puller Thursday, i got 2 good 185 stators that are maxing out my meter at 250, mine did not move the needle 3 out 4 times i got 10ohms once, so the 250 ones should be good i presume? any tips to the job should be straight forword i belive

ok i got the puller, got my fly wheel off, but the other 3 185 engines i got are screwed, so as my last resort before buying a new coil, is a 200BR/ M coil the same as the S ignition coil?

BR coil worked, ran great til the flywheel bolt which i forgot to tighten let go, sheared the key off, and quit, pushed it home fixed it, went back out and my chain fell off 5 or 6 times in the short distance there and back, long story short good day.
