    yamaha YTM 225 carb

Hey everyone i recently got a yammy 225dx, guy said it was a 96 but its not. more like an 83. it has 1 of those mikuni carbs. it was pissing gass when i got it. so i cleaned the jets. and checked the float, now theres no leak. because gas does not go into the float chamber anymore. whats the reason?

Is there gas coming out of the petcock/ gas line? My guess would be the floats are stuck, or installed incorrectly not allowing the needle to move, and not allowing gas to enter. Check the needle (the one between the float towers) and see what the deal is..............

Make sure you check the float level, it's probably bent now.

Turn the carb upside down and set the float seam level with the bowl flange by bending the tab that pushes the float needle.
The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person who is doing it.

can you explain it in easyer terms. by float seam level, do you mean where the carb bolts together? the float bowl? and whats a flange?

ok so i spent all morning fliping the floats and ajusting them. i get no gas leaks and i can start it by spraying a little bit of gas into the carb. it will fire right up, but unless i give it some throttle toggle, it wont stay running. and theres a delay when trying to lower rpms.

Maybe the float level is too low now? Sounds like its not getting enough gas to me. Did you ever do a compression test? The carb is CLEAN, right? Check the floats for damage by taking them out and shaking them lightly to see if there is gas in them, which would indicate a hole in the float, if thats the case. Somthing dosnt seem right with the carb. Take it apart and have another look. Also check timing and valve lash at the rocker arms while your at it, as it all has to do with the way the motor runs. Good luck---

Carb is clean, settings back to factory, right??? Have you tried running it with the choke on? If you do and it acts better than you know it is getting starved for fuel. If it floods it out then you can move on to other diagnoses.

there is no choke, its a mikuni carb and it does not have one. i better cleaned it out. set it to factory and now it runs first pull, and stays running on its own. but is idling way to high. like half throttle.

There you go. Adjust the throttle cable a bit to get the idle right.
