Thinking about getting a KLR650
The owner of this bike offered to trade it for one of my deuces. I am seriously considering the trade. Do any of you have any experience with one of these bikes? From what I have seen so far they sell for around $3,000. This one is a 2006 and come with a lot of extras.

they are great bikes, if you can handle the weight. fairly fast from what i understand. dead reliable.

That sounds good. This would not be a long term ride for me. But it would be nice to have a nice bike for the time I plan to own it.

I have owned one of these. Not very good for offroading. They are way to heavy, very mellow engine. They do however make a nice around town bike and will last a long time if you take care of them. I would say if you were doing 80 street/ 20 off-road then this would be ok. They have a huge tank, geared a bit higher for slight highway use, very soft suspension and it is easier to carry a passenger. basically a taller street bike with slight offroading capabilities.I went from one of these to a KLX400 and i will not look back. It is lighter and faster than the 650. It is more suitable for 50/ 50 setup. Smaller tank, highway is not fun for any length of time. But you can jump hills, trail ride for hours. I even took mine on a mx track. I have since picked up a drz400 ( same as the KLX, just diffrent plastics ) that i have for a spare or buddy.

Also go on thumpertalk. You will notice that when people buy these they usaully dont keep them long. They sell them off for a lighter/ faster bike. I have been checking out the KTM's lately. Talk about nice.

Thanks man, that is a lot of good information. I mostly want to get rid of a duece so I do not plan to have it long.

should have called me louis, I just sold mine about 2 years ago... nearly had everything you could do to it would easily go past its 120 mph speed. Redid alot of things though, added extra cibi lighting took the rack off put a motorcross tail on, differnt pegs, the carb/intake/ airbox all were modded, head pipe and silencer added, and 4stroke tech ported the head on it so it romped!!
