atc 185 wont run with choke off

I have an "83" honda atc 185. i have installed a carb kit. it wont run with the choke off. runs well with it full on. but slowly kills itself when the choke is off. any help would be appreciated. also, i am a new owner of this three wheeler and a three wheeler virgin, so any other advice is appreciated also...

You have the correct size pilot jet in? The carb kit should have came with one, match the number with your old one. Check for air leaks, float adjustment and make sure you have no kinks in your fuel line.

Did you set the idle mixture screw? The manual says one turn out, from a lightly seated position. Needle clip, second groove from top.
